OK - I have all the software I need to create DVDs and trialled everything today. All seemed to be fine....until.....is there a way to change the screen resolution size of a downloaded AVI file? It would appear that the size it is in is not compatible for a DVD file? Does this make any sense at all and can it be rectified? Also, I was pointed in the direction of this programme (WinMPG) which claims to convert AVI into just about anything..including DVD? Is this just garbage or is this a serious bit of kit that could save me hours? In theory, I could just convert my AVI movies to DVD and use a DVD burning programme to put it on disk? Sounds far too easy to be true so I'm assuming that it`s not that simple??
What software are you using that gives you every thing you "need" to make a DVD? It is even easier than that. In Roxio6 there is a program that will take a Divx, avi, ete (all but .mov file) and convert to a DVD if you have a DVD burner. Also from what I have read the new Nero 6 has the similar function. I have used Roxio6 for this and it works perfectly fine. It allows you to make the table contents that you see on a DVD (the menu) also you can add cool images and graphics. This is designed as a lazy way to go from Video camera to Home DVD to torcher your family with. What Grampa you have 6hrs of your holdiday on DVD, ya we will watch it. Note it is made to be so easy that grandpa can do it. But most here will recomend using an encoder than burn using burning software as there is less chance of errors. But there are one click solutions to turn your home avi files into DVD movies.
I was advised to use TMPGenc to convert to mpeg, then to use TMPGenc Author to convert to DVD format and then Nero 6 to burn. I have all these and Roxio6 although I need to get the platinun version of Roxio as the version I have does not include the DVD option, just VCD. I'm thinking now though that I could use winMPG to convert to DVD and possibly Nero6 or Roxio6 to burn to the DVD disk?
Sounds good, you are better off using an enconder to go from avi to DVD format then burn with Nero or Roxio. That should lead to less errors and less time. Roxio6 takes 65mins to go Divx to DVD then 60min to burn the DVD (I only have a 1x burner).
Interestingly enough, I have stumbled across NeroVision Express 2SE. I had a look at this earlier and thought I`d give it a try. I was able to select a DivX movie from my hard-drive and pressed `start'. It spent 4 and half hours `transcoding' the movie and then burnt it directly without having to touch anything else. In total, less than 5 hours and only having to select the file and press go Played first time in my standalone DVD player with absolutely outstanding picture quality! Problem was the sound was approximately 5 seconds behind the film If anyone has any ideas how this happened or how to correct this (simply! I am a n00b! LOL) it would be greatly appreciated. What I am basicly looking for is an idiot-proof programme that will complete the entire process of Avi/DivX to DVD disk without any fuss or having to use several different programmes? Is there such a thing? What I have found with Roxio and TMPGenc is that it doesn`t like the resolution of the movies I have (eg 365x580) and therefore will not process to DVD format
Do not use any version older than the latest release of Nero to do any encoding with. If you had done some research on this website you would have read that encoding with Nero is crappy. Do your encoding with TMPGEnc and burn with Nero and you shouldn't have any problems.
If I use WinMPG to convert from avi to mpeg, do I need to select mpeg1 or mpeg2 in order to burn as DVD? With the greatest of respect, I have researched threads on this website but much of it is beyond me. I'm not completely computer illiterate but I am quite new to this whole DVD burning thing hense me being here in the newbie section. I am still coming to grips with the differences between mpeg, avi, divX and vob
