Can MKV files be read by my stand alone DVD player?

    Or do I have to convert it into DVD format?

    It's uncommon that it would. If you go to videohelp.com then click "dvd players" (top) you can search your dvd player (name and model for best result.) You might find your answer in the user submitted comments, below. Scroll down and you'll see them. If you're lucky, someone has tried it and commented. Good Luck : )
