    Hi !

I have problems whenever trying to convert an AVI to VCD-format with TMPGenc and every other tool I tried to do it with...

In TMPGenc it says "can not open audio-file or unsupported" whenever I point it to the same location as the AVI and the same message pops-up if I extract the WAV separately.

It is not AC3, it is compressed with Lame MP3-encoder...

This is getting so annoying cuz Ive tried the Cinema Craft Encoder too and then I get the message "acmStreamOpen() failed error :512
    the wave format is 85"

And in VirtualDub it doesnt let me rip the audio in "Full processing" cuz it says I should check whether I have the right codecs installed and of course Ive done that but still it wont work..,.

I can only convert the video but NOT the audio...

What could be wrong here ??

Well this is Pretty easy...The audio in your AVI is "VBR MP3" which Tmpgenc does not support...You have to extract the audio from your AVI file to Wav format useing something like Virtual dub The use the Wav file as the audio source in Tmpgenc..When you load your AVI into Virtual Dub you will probably get an error that the audio is VBR...to Properly Extract the audio to Wav you Have to Set the "Audio" setting to "Full Proscessing Mode" then nder Compression choose "None" then go to "File" to "Save Wav" and save the file, then just load it into Tmpgenc as the audio source....Cheers

PS: CCE will only accept Wav audio as the Audio format and you need to Frameserve to use CCE for VCD or SVCD...

Yeah, I tried that but when I use VirtualDub to extract the audio it just says "Error initializing audio stream decompression: The requested conversion is not possible. Check to make sure you have the required codec"

I dont get it cuz whatever I use to extract audio from AVI I get error-message...

    What could possibly be wrong..?

I know I have the codec...

Well it sounds Like Maybe you do not have a Mpeg3 codec installed....try installing this Codec :h**p://download.softpedia.com:8080/MULTIMEDIA/AUDIO/radium_mp3codec12.zip ...Then restart your PC and then try extracting the audio with Virtual Dub....Post back and tell me if it works...Cheers

I have the Lame MP3 Codec installed but anyway I tried with the Fraunhofer too but still that stupid error-message...

I can play the movies without a problem so I dont get this...

Its only like this with AVI, it seems.

Ive uninstalled Windows Media Player some time ago but that couldnt have something to do with it, or..?

Cuz sometimes when M$-apps are removed it can cause strange errors...

Well the only other thing I can think of is to try to extract the audio useing something like Sound Forge which is what I use with difficult files....But it seems strange that you can"t extract the audio?? Good Luck

Does the audio play when you watch the movie?

    Yeah , it does...

Strange cuz I tested an app called Cucusoft AVI to VCD/DVD now and it converted it with the audio.
    Is those converters good?
Ive heard that TMPGEnc worx best in making standard working VCDs so its irritating I cant get it to work with AVI.
Its just with AVI files both VirtualDub and TMPGenc seems to fail for me...

Hi, No Cucusoft is a Pretty Crappy encoder But what you can do is use it to encode Just the audio and use Tmpgenc to encode the video and just Mux the audio and Video files together in Tmpgenc"s Simple Multiplex....This will work...Cheers

Is it possible to encode just the audio with Cucusoft..?
Or do ya mean I should encode the whole AVI with Cucusoft and just use that file as audio source in TMPGEnc ?

Most encoders will allow you to encode just the audio, Just look through all of the settings and I"m sure you will figure it out...
It will output the audio in Probably Mpeg 1 layer 2 format..The you just encode the Video in tmpgenc then use the Simple Multiplex to join the Video from Tmpgenc and the audio from Cocosoft into a Mpeg file....

There is also a program simular to this called "Decompress.exe" that will turn your AVI file with compressed Audio to an AVI file with Uncompressed Audio, I believe this Program comes with a Crappy Encoder called AVI2VCD.....Cheers
