ok heres the story, my dad was on the computer the other day and it literally just died, the first thing we thought was that the power supply went, i was thinking it'd be the motherboard consiering the light on the front was still on but nothing else was happening (no beeping or fans going etc) so today we went and bought a 550 watt power supply, our old one was 350 watt. anyway the computer still does the exact same thing. so now we're convinced its the motherboard. can someone please help me with this stupid problem. im pretty sure its the motherboard but incase im wrong heres the symptoms

    - The front light turns on but nothing else happens

    - When we opened the computer and turned it on we noticed the fans twitched for a second then stopped

    - We cleaned the computer out of duest and have made sure that all cables are properly connected

if anyone has any advice please help me. thanks in advance

Sounds like your motherboard died. Had the same problem a few years back. Come to find out my MB died and had to be replaced.

I would say it's the mobo as well. If just the processor had died, you usually get all the fans still running. But double check that the processor still works by trying it in a known working system as if something major has gone wrong on the mobo, it can sometimes bugger the processor as well.

disconnect all cards, ram & cables to drives to localize where the short is. leave the cpu fan in to see if spins or not. try cpu out of motherboard to see if short still happens. check the can shaped objects on the motherboard that are capacitors. supposed to be flat topped not domed.
