I had no problems with my burns with this media myself...but give it a few months when the dye deteriorates and it wont play in your dvd player...

I'm really not boycotting them, I just buy brands that have proven to hold up better. For the price, you can buy Taiyo Yudens for the same money as Memorex. Watch the sales online, and in stores you can get Verbatims and maxells.

I just bought a 50 pack of Verbatims DVD+R 8x for $14.99. Hard to justify buying memorex.

Personally, I don't have any problem with people who choose to purchase Memorex discs ... after all, someone has to ..

What I DO have a problem with is people who see all the bad posts about Memorex and, after purchasing it anyways, bitch, moan and whine about how it doesn't play after 6 months or so ... and how they no longer can play their valued material ...

And .. like the Ruger man says ... for the same money, or in some cases less money, you can purchase the GOOD stuff

    oh me oh my!

it took me using 500 bad discs before i wised up. those weren't Memorex my point is that using only 50 discs doesn't mean a lot when you talk about Memorex and here's the proof why - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232406

    mike955,
I personally never used that media, but believe me it must be a good reason why these guys are telling you not to. Would like to hear back from you in, say, 3/6/12months. Please don't forget your scans.

    @mike955

dunno why you went from being mearly inquisitive about Memorex media to then stating that they are "the best" in a diff. thread you started...????

well, whatever floats your boat...there are plenty of reasons WHY memorex isn't a good product, but for me to touch upon all of them, we'd be here all night and i don't know if AfterDawn has the capacity to store my entire post~ LOL

Creaky's reply is why I don't buy memosux: Outsourcing to poor quality manufacturers. Very hard to figure out which memosux is made by the higher quality manufacturers like Mitsubishi and ricoh. Maxell/sony/and fuji are easier to figure out the TY/Hitachi media.

In my book, MBI-Moser bauer/CMC-CMAGS/Prodisc/Phillips can be total crap. All those are made in taiwan, just like the MCC and Ricohs. Good luck finding Memosux tys.Memosux Mitsubishi's also made in taiwan.

I have no problems, burning wise with my benqs.A generic/crappy brand burner will. The main issues-cmag memosux,is stand alone playability. Those picky standalones will tell you they suck by pixellating/freezine/skipping/jumping/or No disc/dirty disc error.

If you can burn them, and they play ok on your stand alones, then you may be ok for a while. Longevity? Probably not. Breakdown in the media with inferior dye! Only time will tell.

Another thing is the price for memorex cmag media, which 70-80% of memorex are-cmags. When they go on sale, spindles of 50 for $15,just like the HP cmags. You can get higher quality media for that price and cheaper. All the resources for lower price media is right here in these dvd-r media forums.
It's like buying a Honda or a Hyundai for the same price.

If you want a good test to see how good your memosux backups are, Try re-ripping one of those backups. If you have dual drives, rip them on the fly with a disc copy program like nero/sonic/roxio. Single drive, rip to hard drive and burn just like a normal backup.
Poor quality/too many errors/errors in the wrong spots and good luck trying to get them to re-rip. Maybe later on you want to re-rip one of those memosux backups and you get a big fat CRC error!

    My 2 cents! Later
