I have a V220 that was purchased recently in Italy (Vodafone SIM)and want to activate it here in California (Santa Cruz/SF Bay Area). A friend confirmed that the phone is "unlocked" and tested it with his Cingular SIM but noticed that my phone has been configured to tri band (it lists 900/1800 - 1900, but not the 850 band). My understanding is that these phones were design as quad band and are "crippled" to tri band for specific markets. If possible, I would like to activate all the bands to have the most options for use both here and in Europe. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and what is involved? It is not clear to me if the operating bands can be controlled in firmware or not. Any help in resolving this would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Will

    HI Will

Your phone should work anyway over in California it should only need a Tri band handset.
Your handset is tri band and ther is no way you can turn into a quad band phone sorry :(
