That is one point that I have yet to find explicitly detailed (probably because no one else cares but me . Anyway, hypothetically I would be using a G6 Lite 4G with a Passcard 3 in a DS Lite. With that setup, would I be able to vary the brightness settings upon booting up? Also, I believe the DS Lite would still display the health warning page upon powering-on, but would it also go the subsequent default "browser" that allows you access to various settings and so on? Or does it auto-boot directly to the G6 menu? Also, if it does not allow normal access to the brightness settings, is their any download that can correct that? And if, in the end, one cannot select the brightness, what level is defaulted to? Finally, is this an issue that is rooted in which "passcard" is used, or is it related to the G6's architecture? G6's page, though quite admirable in many ways, left the issue a bit unresolved in mind. First, it only referred directly to the obselete Passkey 2. Second, I am uncertain how to read their comment about a "rumor," quoted below. Does it mean that they are writing that blurb to dispel the baseless claim, or are they informing people that despite the relative success of the Passkey 2 there are still murmurings of occassional difficulty in brightness selection: "If you using the passkey2 and G6 adapter on the ds lite, you can change the brightness. It is just the same as using the original card on NDS Lite Note: There is rumor saying if you using passkey2 and G6 on the ds lite, you won't be able to change the brightness." On a related thread on this forum, Pakixd said this in reference to the combination of a Passcard 3 and an M3: "You will be able to change brightness regardless of what you do, as long as you don't replace the firmware on your DS Lite with the wrong one." That is obviously encouraging, however some banter from other sources seems contradictory, and I am not certain if the situation Pakixd was referring to is necessarily the same in conjunction with the G6. As such, any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
All you need to worry about with losing backlight control is when using FlashMe (which your not, so don't worry) I have a FlashMe installed that allows backlight control, but if i have my G6 plugged in (equivelent to your Passcard3 and G6 combo) it will automatically load the G6, skipping the main menu of the DS. What I have to do if I have my G6 plugged in is hold Select when turning on my DS so the main DS menu appears, then change the brightness, what you will have to do is remove the passcard and then turn the unit on, this will stop the unit auto booting, and therefore allow you to change the brightness. I did hear a while ago of a homebrew program that allowed you to change the brightness, but I never looked into it, as it's just easier to do the method I said previously. it would be good if the G6 team could find a way to let you change the brightness settings from within the G6 menu though.
OR...... you could just hold down start as you boot up your ds.... or just pop out the cartridges....or deselect auto boot from the startup settings within the main menu... Why is everyone making such a big deal about brightness settings within the gui, how many damn times do you need to change the brightness? on my g6 lite you hold down start, not select
^ I don't understand why everyone is concerned about brightness either. Its not like you can change the brightness inside of a game, so why should you be able to inside the G6/M3/SC gui?
I said about the removing of cartridges, and I never have used autoboot, so obviously disabling it makes no difference. Holding start dosn't work for me, but meh, select does. I change my brightness settings twice a day, during the day it's at 3, and at night when i'm in a dark room it's either 1 or 2 (my eyes are sensitive to light and anything higher in a dark room hurts) I don't see too much point in having it in the GUI of the devices, but it has some use, for example, you are about to change game, so you do a soft-reset, change the brightness then load the next game, saves you having to turn the DS off then on again (which would take about 2 seconds longer, think of the seconds!!! ¬_¬ )
well, then you must have some magical ds, because on my white lite, black lite, and ds classic I can have the g6lite put in and the passcard 3 in, switch the nds' to manual mode, and it wont auto boot. And on mine its hold down start, on all 3 of my ds' its hold start but then again you have flashme installed, so your ds is completely different
Indeed, I find FlashMe alot more convienient, but it obviously changes quite alot of how the DS works compared to using a Passcard.
Nope, is the drawback of using a G6. Danny from the M3 team has told me they will most likly be releasing a 8Gb (1GB) version, but have no plans to so so anytime soon 'cos of the M3 Lite release.
that's true, but the homebrew program, Moonshell (video, pics, and audio player), can infact change the brightness setting while you are running the program with a certain button combination so it is possible to change the brightness while running a program. What the companies need to do is add this feature to their patching programs and firmware upgrades, so when you patch ROMS, it adds the ability to change brightness in game or while in the menu, similar to the other button combos they use to soft reset games, or to return to the menu. For the supercard lite, you press L+R+A+B+X+Y to return to the supercard menu, L+R+START+SELECT to reset the game, I'm sure they could add another combo to change the brightness.
