I was wondering if you could do the thing in this video with different dvd drives. I have an old Hitachi that I put custom firmware on but the motherboard has red ringed to the point where I can't restore it so I am getting a new one. I wanted to know if I could take the chip that registers the DVD drive out of the drive in the new 360 and put it in my Hitachi drive so that it will be recognized by the motherboard and I won't have to flash the firmware again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_xSsNmjqKI&feature=channel
I don't think that would work because of the following: 1. If your buying a new 360 the drive will almost certainly be a Liteon and not be compatible with any part of a Hitachi DVD Drive 2. The hitachi DVD Drive Chip is in almost one part 3. It would be 50 million times easier just to flash it 4. If you flash with LT it would be stealth and you probably would save bricking 2 drives 5. The Hitachi DVD drive is probably worn out 6. Depending on the firmware it would probably not be able to play new games 7. If your buying a new Xbox look around for a guy selling JTAG'ed ones or one compatible with being JTAG'ed.
