Cannot access data on CDR/CDRW after buring (won't read it)

I have an interesting problem. I have a Ricoh CDR/CDRW drive (8x4x24). It has worked like a charm for over a year now (with Adaptec easy CD creator 5). I recently bought a Pioneer DVR-105 and that is where the trouble started. I am burning coasters left and right. I took my Ricoh drive out and put only the Pioneer drive in and tried experimenting with CDRs and CDRWs first before I wasted $$ on DVD-R media. I keep burning CDs that this drive and all other drives cannot read. I get the message that the "recording process completed successfully" but I can't read the CD. If I stick the CD into (any) drive and right click and show properties, a curious thing happens. It tells me that the data is there (All 514MB of it). It just cannot read the data itself. I checked to make sure that that software is closing the session and it is set up that way. I am now using Recordnow Max 4.0 and I just installed Nero 5.5.8 but it doesn't recognize the Pioneer DVR drive correctly. Nero recognizes that the data is there but also cannot read the disk. Here is the killer: I re-formatted my PC and started over but it still won't work and now my trusty RICOH drive is spitting out coasters. I don't know what to do next. Someone PLEASE help...
BTW, I have tried burning images and just plain straight data too.

    A new develoment:
I can now burn CDs (and I think CDRWs) with RecordNow Max's Wizard program. It seems to turn out fine when I do it that way.
However, every time I use the main features on the program (not the wizard), I burn a CD that other CD ROM and DVD ROM drives can tell there is supposed to be data there but can't read it. This is even more puzzling to me.
I cannot burn .img files because of this but I can extract the img files and burn the contents through the wizard. This will not do for me because some programs you cannot simply copy what is inside of the image and burn it(I think it has something to do with disk geometry?)

Scotto10,You could try downloading the newest version of Nero (5.5.9.17.1).It has many features that the older versions don't.I've not had any problems with mine. Also, your earlier problem with producing coasters-You said that the trouble started when you installed the Pioneer- Have you thought of conflicting files?

When I installed this Pioneer drive, I reformatted the disk so it wouls have a clean slate. I can record on CDRs and CDRWs now even without the wizard but when I try to burn an image, I still get that "the files are there, just no drive actually access them:. I will try the new Nero and see what happens with it.
