I am fiddling with settings to try and make a backup of my Star Wars movies. When I play the DVD back, at 1h and 5 minutes the video freezes. If I wait 10 to 20 seconds the video plays again, but it starts to replay from a previous part of the movie. It does the same for 2 different DVD players? Anyone ever seen this? Thanks.
All that's needed to backup the Star Wars films is good old DVD Shrink. Sounds like your freezing problem is down to a burn error as opposed to a movie ripping/conversion error.
I will add one thing to the great advice Creeky gave you, well maybe a few. See Shrink forum, after it is ripped use FixVTS on the files. Then use imgburn to burn your blank media AD members believe is a great media. Oh one last thing make sure the disk surface of the master disk is clean. Skippy disks are due to bad processing. You can make them more ore less skippy with each step you take. I have taken a store bought disk my DVD player wouldn't recognize and the copy ran smooth as silk.
I will follow all of your advice and post back! I do know its not the disc. I took it to family video and they used their cleaning machine on it. Then I even tried to use my friends copy and I got the same results. Thanks for the replies!
You can also try Ripit4me but that requires DVD Decrypter. These are valuable alternatives that you have not been able to download for years but the cyber police must be slacking off. I was able to download Ripit4me the other day. Ripit4me+FixVTS can do wonders for some hard to read disks. They are old software so they can't decrypt new encryptions but new schemes are used less and less. You can take a skippy disk and make a smooth running copy. Cleaning the DVD reader helps but providing a disk with a sharp image works much better. You can buy a DVD cleaner for a few bucks.
Just using DVD Shrink alone I have already been able to backup The Phantom Menace. Maybe DVD Cloner 7 just doesn't support some encryption types? I figured it might save me some time when I bought it, but its been a hassle for some time. I think using the free tools and posting to the forums to help others is going to work out better for everyone. I let you know how the rest of the backups go! Thanks Mez (I am happy that the kids can watch star wars now and I don't have to worry about smudges and scratches and fighting over the DVDs. When they are young its so hard to police dvds, especially veggie tales. Kids will take that DVD to bed with them if you don't watch out.)

I never said Shrink wouldn't back up an original Star Wars. Skippy masters often make skippy copies unless you clean them up. Your reader/burner in your PC must be a good one. I am one of those NO coaster guys. A 'coaster' is what happens when your DVD fails to play. All it is good for is a drink coaster. Granted, my philosophy is over kill. But then I have not made a coaster in probably 3-4 yrs and 2000+ burns. They are always perfect. I never play the originals. I don't like menus and all too often these days they are skippy.
