I have had complete success in the past using +R discs when backing up my DVDs. Recently, my wife purchased a portable dvd player that plays -R and not +R. My problem is I have not been able to successfully back up a dvd to a -R disc yet. I know it's not the portable player because my Sony DVD player plays all disc and it does not play the -R discs that I have created either. Is there something different in the process when burning a -R? I have an Optorite burner, Nero Ultra 6, and DVD Shrink. Thanks for any help.
Hi, Just to clarify, Your portable and your Sony both play +R fine but neither of them will play the -R discs you've burned, correct? If this is the case, it could be an issue of low-quality media or the firmware needs updating. What brand -R did you use and does your burner have the latest firmware? There's no difference in the burning process for either formats.
Optorite is a cheap writer , so you cant expect it to be brilliant at everything Check latest firmware : http://www.optorite.com/_english/web/2_service/2_firmwares.php And as Ive just read here : http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=96&Search=Search&list=0#comments You might wanna try burning at X2 instead to make -R media more than likely to play perfectly ... also use Ritek G04 / Verbatim -R media
