I have this file that my son put on my desktop coraline.2009.dvdrip-xvid.arrow-MFDss with a tm symbol above and to the right of the ss. I have tried removing the read only attribute and deleting, cut and paste and delete, move and delete. Every time it hangs and the message is that it is being used by another program. Any idea what is happening here? He is away at sea and I cannot get hold of him. Thanks for any help.

how about system restore to before it showed up? check in msconfig\startup that that file is not there & if it is then uncheck the box in front of it.

Would love to be able to do systme restore but have just spent three hours fixing Norton update issue and cannot risk losing that just to get rid of file. Was hoping someone could tell me what the extension of the file is

    Do what ddp said
    start button
clik run then type in box that appears
    msconfig
    clik ok
If file is not in "STARTUP" tab go back to first tab "GENERAL" & then tick
    "SELECTIVE STARTUP"
Should in theory be able to delete once rebooted (on reboot continue to windows when stupid warning dialogue appears)or you could try "SAFE MODE" & delete file that way, safe mode is similar to selective startup in that only necessary apps are loaded

Perhaps I haven't made this clear (except to rtm) but this is not an application and as such is not going to be in startup. I am very familiar with msconfig but that is not going to get rid of a locked file. My major concern is why it is locked in first place. Thinking I may use Registry Mechanic and see if any changes made to registry in case this file has a hidden app although nothing obvious. I would just like to know what the ss stands for (other than obvious pun LOL) in case this is serious. Cannot think of any other reason other than that it is locked for it hanging on attempts to delete.

It appears to be a torrent file or part of.Perhaps the desktop was used as the download location so look for utorrent or limewire, bit torrent, firewire in all progs or system tray or running processes.
