Ok weird things happening today. I updated my ipod fine when I first got onto my computer. Then I logged out of my user account (which is where I do all my ipod work) and into my Admin account to do some various things not related to my ipod. I left my ipod connected to the computer and when the admin account was up and running itunes opened up and asked if I wanted to link this ipod to this itunes I said NO. I didn't think twice about it. So then I log back into my user account and get some songs and then go to update my ipod and it says "ipod "josh" cannont be updated. You do not have enough access privlages for this operation". What gives?

Thanks Lethal_B. I followed the instructions and everything works great. I was wondering what that ipod updater software was for. This being my first ipod I have a few things to learn.

    Hehe.

The 'restore' feature of the updater will revert your iPod back to factory state, which is handy as it usually addresses most of the niggly issues. The 'update' feature is there so if you have just downloaded the updater (it may be a newer version), you can simply install it onto your computer & update with one click!

    Enjoy!!

Awesome. Thanks again man. I was stressing thinking I'd have to re-install itunes after I renamed a zillion tracks....uggh what a pain that was. oh, and on that note why is it that I am unable to rename some tracks... in the get info tab all the text is gray and I can't rename them... is it because I didn't create those files (download) in my user account (the one I run iTunes in)?

If you re-install iTunes, your songs will still remain intact ;-)

If you are running a limited account, and created them in an administrator account, then that'll be the issue. Address that how you want -- change your current account to an admin account or copy your music from the admin account to the limited account & re-import, which will solve the priviledges issue.

Well its good to hear that if I reinstall itunes my songs will still remain named the way I had them....as for the whole privledge issue...I can deal with it the way it is for now untill as I'll be clean installing soon so I'll do it then... again thanks for your insight.
