I have a Canoscan 340P flatbed scanner. I have installed all the software etc. ok. Connected my printer to the scanner & the printer is working properly. The problem I`m having is that the computer is not detecting the scanner! I have tried everything to get my pc to find the scanner but nothing has worked so far. The scanner worked perfectly on another computer no probs at all. I have tried re-setting the c/mos bios but that didn`t make any difference. Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know what I can do to get the computer to detect the scanner?

go to control panel...then scanners and camers. You will have to switch to classic view to see it. Then click add imaging device on the left tool bar. Let the wizard walk you through it. You may need your windows xp cd...cause xp may not have the software installed yet to you a scanner...just like when you add a fax to your comp. This is under the assumption your using xp.:>

I have tried installing with the control panel then scanners & cameras but still cannot add scanner as there is no option for a canon scanner on the left hand side. If I try to install with the CD that came with the scanner I get the message that there is no information about the scanner on the cd. All the drivers are installed, all the software is installed. My printer is connected to the scanner & it is printing perfectly so I know the parallel port is working properly. The port is definately enabled. When I click on the scanner I get the error message 0x0070800 which means there is no communication between the scanner & the computer. I purchased a new power supply lead in case that was the problem. I know the scanner was working perfectly on a computer running XP a week ago. I just cannot to get my pc to detect it! Please give any info you can.

The port was on ECP, I`ve re-set it to EPP as per instructions given in troubleshooter.

try the scanner without the printer hooked up. also check for updated drivers for the scanner.

Have downloaded & installed the latest drivers, tried it without the printer - still no good. As a thought how do I change the parallel port from EPP to bi-directional when the only options are ECP, EPP or ECP + EPP.

possibility it might be the printer cable is at fault as there is 3 different wired versions of it. try the scanner on another computer to see if does same thing.
