ya i also had issues tryin to back up my dvd of madagascar i gave up trying..only to realize my os was messing up really bad..so i reformated the h/d and all is ok..considering it was the last thing i was really doing on my pc.it was obvious it was some sort of attachement the ripguard put into my os..no matter the program i tried/installed i just couldnt get my backup copy encoded..o well.. but ppl here are great at helping you for your ripping needs as ive read so many great suggestion in this forum..
I can't believe Madagascar is still around here. It was Macrovision's RipGuard aka b!tch, but it's super easy as smokin'. Don't run DVD43 in the background. Here's what you need to do. I GUARANTEE YOU that you'll be able to have a successfully working full disc within 45 minutes. (1) just have either DVD Decrypter to rip via Mode, File F into your hard drive, and wait until it's done, then closed DVD Decrypter. (2) or have DVDFAB Decrypter rip into your hard drive, once DVDFAB Decrypter is done, closed DVDFAB Decrypter. 3) open up VobBlanker, browse to your "input = source" (browse to your VIDEO_TS foler that was ripped by either DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter earlier, then set your "output = destination" <-- your new folder that you're going to encode with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2. 4) click/highlight VTS_8_VOB and highlight PGC or TTN entry 2 - 5 then Blank them and click on PROCESS. That's it... sit and wait until it's done. Now you can encode/compress it with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 and burn them at your desire burning engine. Enjoyed it and happy burning..!!
I paid for my AnyDVD as well and it is a great program. It will help resolve 99.9% of backup encryption issues from the get go. Well worth the expense (which is minimal). Those of you who don't like it. Don't buy it.
I registered just to say thank you for helping with some basics and providing the information I needed to backup my child's new xmas gift. At her age, the CD's don't last long and at the rate she watches them, this should keep both her and mee smiling through the New Year. Cheers! zaqi
Tried DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, VobBlanker, & DVD Fab Decryptor and no luck fully ripping/decoding with any of these. Always get error at VTS 08_02.VOB with DVD Decryptor or on processing the VTS_08 file in VobBlanker (even when blanking out 2-5) anyone know whats causing this error? - do not see any scrathes, etc.. on the disc
yeah [bold]Ripguard[/bold] causes it. use anydvd behind clonedvd2 ,dvd shrink or dvd decrypter To use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD as stated per Olli ->OF SLYSOFT AND CLONEDVD Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes" General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection" use this method and the movie is yours
I got a similar error when trying to rip with DVD Decryptor;however, once I upgraded to the latest version, manually created a VIDEO_TS folder, then followed Alkohol's steps to the T with all 'i''s dotted, it worked. I am assuming you tried all the steps in this post, but to no avail, but sometimes overlooking the smallest, yet obvious, could get you the results that you want. Check version of your ripper Make sure you have the correct folders created (not sure if this matters, but making a VIDEO_TS folder should not hurt) Follow Alkohol's steps for ripping Then use shrink if you choose, which I did, and kept only the movie, the little Christmas cartoon (2min long) and the music video. Removed the other lanugages and non-English audio which resulted in zero compression. I am not trying to sound rude at all, but I made a lot of mistakes trying to rip this and the main issue I had was my version of decryptor was an old version, once updated and read alkohol's steps exactly, the world was kind again. Best of luck, hope you get your copy and wishing everyone a joyous, safe, and wonderful New Year! zaqi
Thanks for the info - seems my DVD Decryptor is up to date (v3.5.4.0) and it still will not rip VTS 08_02.VOB either in File or ISO modes. Movie hangs up in the middle also (where the main characters are captured) wonder if this is manufacturing issue?
An Error in VTS_08_[bold]2[/bold] means that the original disc is bad. So far there is no corruption Ripgaurd, ARccOS, whatever, that lies in anything other than VTS_XX_1.VOB. Rip the movie and when it gets stuck, press the "Abort" button and then choose to skip the file. DVD Decrypter will continue with the rest of the movie. I would suggest that you clean you disc and be careful when handling it only to touch the edges to prevent smudging. If you are still unsuccessful, try some Spray Car wax. The ones in the aerosol (cleaner waxes) works the best, but something like McGuire's, Zymol, or Mother's, will work as well. Now when you try to rip the movie, only rip VTS_08_2.VOB since this is the only file you do not have. If you are still having problems, use your DVD Burner to rip this file as those have better readers than DVD-ROM drives, but only as a last resort. If it still fails, get a new copy of the movie. Return it and say that it does not work on your DVD Player because your disc is a bad pressing.
-Okay I've tried AnyDVD in conjunction with DVDFAB Express = NO GO at VTS 08_02.VOB @ about 33% -I've tried AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter = NO GO at VTS 08_02.VOB where it continues to retry until i abort and skip the file. (including past posts on how to tweak DVD Decrypter (both the 4 tab changes and the 2 tab change) -DVD Shrink locks up with ANYDVD in the background when trying that combo. -DVD Decrypter w/o AnyDVD running like alkohol says = NO GO -DVDFab Express w/o AnyDVD running like alkohol says = NO GO I can't get to the VobBlanker step b/c i am missing VTS 08_02.VOB, and even knowing that and trying it regardless, VobBlanker still errors when doing the blanking. -All My Programs are up to date as of today (jan. 3rd 2006) and i'm clueless -I've read in past posts that people have had skips while watching the movie at the point in which they are being captured in the subway station (this is the same case for me). And i've also read where others have stated that VTS 08_02.VOB is not RipGuarded, that its another .VOB ....I've tried it all and I've read it all and I'm completely stuck....
okay taking a stand on the idea the perhaps its the Original DVD the has a nation wide bad pressing and thus people are swamping afterdawn.com to figure out how to burn this DVD, while at the same time these same people are being catagorized into not being able to beat RipGuard, thus creating even more confusion....if this all is the case then, can anybody tell me if there's a manufactureres disc SKU or # or whatever that i can distingish a good original from a bad bc i dont recall hearing of any recalls on the DVDs and as far as going back to store to do an exchange or return on an open DVD, they tend to frown on that kind of thing, especially if this is a bigger problem which means multiple trips back and forth...... .....these are just my thoughts after 3 days of trying to rip this DVD
@KrazyKarl, As far as I know, there is no way to tell if a DVD is a bad pressing or not. I think companies use different, cheaper, replication facilities now than they did in the past. There could be 1,000,000 copies of this movie out there with an error in VTS_08_2.VOB, but a DVD player canb compensate for read erros by either making a frame of green, pixelated mess or a slight pause then skip. I should still have the Region 1 IFOs, so I can take a look at them and see if there is anything else that is suspicious in the movie just to make sure. Edit: Took a look at the IFOs again, and found nothing suspicious that would be in VTS_08_2.VOB. There is a Layer Break in Chapter 6 about 27 minutes into the movie, maybe this is causing the error for some reason. Maybe the disc is damaged along the edge, by the layer break, so that it why there are errors there. Make sure there are no Smudges or anything else, especially towards the end. You will have to look at the disc in a well lit room and change the viewing angles to see imperfections. Have you tried a PSL file for this movie? DVD Decrypter should not need one, but if you want, I can post a PSL. However, this one will be different than the "official" one, so if you also want the one that PGCEdit also generates, let me know.
first thanks for the quick responses. I tried what aabbccdd said and d/led clone dvd, but doing a movie only attempt i got an error at File 1 D:/VIDEO_TS/VTS_08_2.VOB 23 TCSectorReader with it being a cycle redundancy check. And JaguarGod, I live with 3 roommates, so there's already several smudges and scratches on the dvd (whoever did them will die), but looking at the dvd, i did notice two perferated bumps along the outter edge of the disc, that could only be done during pressing...which leads me to believe that it is in fact the pressing. I would suggest that others with this issue, check to see if you find two bumps as well, and i'm doing to return this to the store and attempt it all again...
Yes you have a bad/scrathed dvd clonedvd 2 with anydvd WILL backup the movie with a clean disc with NO problem
I just used AnyDVD and ripped to HD with shrink. Then burned the ISO file with decrypter. No errors, no problems. I know this is suppose to be hard on the hardware, but with this combo, I have never found a movie that can't be copied.
Here is a guide I specificly made on Madagascar: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=59979
