I have been burning with nero 6 for some time with no problems at 4x's but now I can only burn at 2.4, I had my nec 1100a drivers updated and nero updated but still I can only burn at 2.4x's, what's up? I have burned about 1000 times already, is my burner on it's way out, or what. thank you
It's very possible that your burner may be on it's way out if you've burned that many discs. It's also possible that your drive may be in PIO mode which will limit the burn speed. The drive should be set to DMA for best performance. Here's a link that may help you sort this out if your drive is indeed in PIO: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx
A few questions. What program are you using with Nero or are you Using Nero as a standalone, such as Recode2? Since he has Nero, he can open the console and go into Extras and open Get System Info. Under configuration check the listed drives and see if they are all listed with DMA on. While there check and make sure the ASPI is installed and functioning properly. Also, since this is Nero, did you check to see what the burn speed is set at in the burning ROM?
I had the same problem using nero 6, it always burned at 4x and then it just stopped, and it started doing it at 2.4x, the way i fixed it is i uninstalled nero and reinstalled it, made sure that the mode was set to DMA IF AVAILABLE and then restarted. after restart start nero again and then make sure your disc is inserted before you go to add your files because if you dont insert the disk first nero is assuming that you will be using the slowest brand and it wont let you change it untill you re-add your files after the media is inserted into the burner. Hope this works for you
another thought have you recently changed your brand of dvd media , iff so maybe your dvd writer dosent recognize the new discs as 4 speed .
Forgot to ask, what version of Nero do you have? Some people are experiencing problems with the latest version.
thanks for all the help everyone, I tried all, but didn't work, just went out and bought a new 8x dvd burner and I'am burning at 4x again, it was time for the drive to start dying.
