can't burn into double layer dvd

hi,
i can burn an image into a normal dvd but cannot burn it into a double layer dvd 8.5gb
for files larger than 4.7 gb. if i shrink the size and burn into a normal dvd it works. but i dont want a loss in quality and want to burn it into the dual layer one, when i do that with image burn it get errors at around 20 %.
