Your Nero is quite old, see if you can update from here http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe You need to free up some memory, dont multitask while burning and shut down all unnecessary programs including spyware. Are you trying to back up a DVD of Scary Movie or is it a download. Heres something I found on that error [bold]In some cases, the firmware is unable to produce reliable burning with a particular disc brand, and rejects the disc as having a "power calibration error" or "illegal disc" or a similar error. This error is generally not related to disc quality issues, but is simply a result of the drive not having the latest firmware in it that lists the particular disc brand. From time to time, drive makers test additional brands of DVD discs and then update their firmware with new write strategies for those newly tested discs, enabling their drives to work with more brands of DVD discs. [/bold] I would change the discs you are using, try some Verbatim or Sony (made in japan) and see how you go,
it's a download...it looks like it's only the last half or 30 mins...it also looks like it would be able to fit onto a cd...it's only using 700mb of room for that conversion from avi to dvd..hope you have the first part of the movie also otherwise it might be a useless attempt...i know at times my nero vision won't let me burn to a dvd if it will fit onto a cd(video)...but also i would recommend trying VSO DIVXtoDVD...it's fairly decent at leaving the "voice" sound in the movie and will convert avi to dvd, in about the same time as nero...plus you could always rub the computer a lil'...it still need some TLC every once and awhile, lol...j/p...good luck with everything...holla
Hi cuda1130 Just to add to Gwen's post what brand of discs are you using and what is the rated speed of them? Looks like you have a Dell pc - Dell would be the ones to support this drive. Seems like they haven't had any firmware updates for it since the end of October 2004. So newer media may give it a problem. Use the ones Gwen suggested. Oh and edit out the serial # - it's begins w/ 1A here NeroVision - Menu for scary movie 4 (2of2) (1 page)1A20- Don't need someone else using it! Gwen I can only see where the converted .avi is 29 mins? (or that's what Nero reports - usually pretty accurate I thought). What am I missing? They're not long movies but 29 mins seems a bit short editted to add - evnflow boy am I a slow typer tonite
I think it's a download in 2 parts or more and he's only got part of the movie. Good to see Drew back, Cheers.
Well cuda1130 if you want the whole movie than you'll need to add part 1 The last screen in Nero Vision will give a summary of the video that you can check to make sure it seems right. It's also in the log - it's under this: NeroVision Properties of your project Gwen Yes it is
Thank you all for the help! I will try these suggestions, and I do have part 1 by the way I just need part 2 but thanks all for the suggestions. I will let you know if this works!

@cuda1130 Almost the same error but now your burner's DMA is off - CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off So let's turn that back on. Here's a link: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 Still need to try and free up some memory. Running low Your drive still does not recognize the media - again only that's it a +R. What brand are your using? Or as enflow suggested try a CD - this one may make it w/ the overburning option turned on.
Well you drive doesn't fully recognize them - Normally you will at least see a manufacturer id in the log - your's doesn't have one. A firmware update could help your drive w/ this along with the write strategy but Dell doesn't seem to have one from what I can find. So you can try the picking the cd option or try some better media like Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Is this a new problem not being able to burn also? (sorry a little late w/ this question) If so what changed?
well it's not a new update but I burned one good cd and this is a new computer and the rest don't seem to want to work But I'll try the new CD idea Thanx for the help!
Now that's a hell of a welcome - two of the loveliest ladies to ever grace our boards both here in the same thread ganging up on 'ol cuda. Hi cuda1130, I ain't near as purdy or smart as these two ladies but I'll give you a warm welcome all the same
@Nephilim, how sweet, I dont believe any of those things Loco said about you in the "hate Nephilim" thread, how dare they!!!
@cuda1130...how has everything gone for you? have you freed up about 1.5gig to 2gigs worth of space and closed out all other programs(even the ones running in the background, except nero of course)? by doing those few things you should get a good burn...
If you check the NO box you will pick up a little more memory, try burning at 4X with the GOOD quality discs.
@Nephilim My aren't you just the nicest You've always been a-ok in my book no matter what anyone says :0) @cuda1130 You've got 129 gig available on your hard drive - so plenty there. Keep us posted on how it turns out - good members on thread so even if the above suggestions don't do the trick - one of us should be able to sort it out!
