Hi everyone i've been backing up and burning my dvd's for about 2 years. From the begining i tried using maxell dvd-r and gave me errors from the get go,switched over to + media and problem solved. The burner is a sony dru710a it's a dual layer it says it records with dvd+, dvd-, dvdrw, etc."with all media".anyway i dropped maxell media and started using sony dvd+.Can someone tell me how i can correct this? It happens using nero after decrypting with shrink;haven't tried it using anydvd & clonedvd2 don't know if its settings with those programs or burner. thanks in advance.

Is your firmware up to date?

You dropped maxell media for sony media. Majority of the sony media out there is 8x and 16x. Your burner's firmware probably needs an update to be able to handle it.

Usually you'll get a burn failed error during the beginning-lead in phase so it'll ask you to insert empty disc. You changed formats, therefore you changed MID codes.Firmware tells your burner how to burn that media.

Here's where you can get that update. BTW,you have a re-badged litey in case you didn't know. BYX5 is the latest update that I know of.

You can get your current fw version through nero infotool. Tell us what it is.

    What is the error message?
Did you save the log from Nero if so, cut n' paste here, remove your serial# when you paste?
What speed are you burning at?
What movie are you tryng to burn?

    Good luck,

my firmware is updated it's BY-5,when i use to use maxell i used from 4x all the way to 16x in + format. As soon as i tried burning with -media,i would get the error.Someone else i know claims same thing happens to him with -media,he thinks it has something to do with dell computer'we both use dell comp;but im not to convince with that. What do you all think? thanks in advance.

No it means that Lite-on made the drive for Sony and sony put their name or "badge" on it.

If you go the link that saugmon mentioned you will find the new firmware, and the link says it is really a (rebadged LiteOn SOHW-1633S/1653S). Some manufactures slap on their on label that other manufactures make, in a mutual agreement. In fact Liteon makes many of the Sony burners, or at least they used to.
