    Check your DMA

    Subpar burner...not your fault.

Substandard media...Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden will make your experience more enjoyable.

Why the hurry? ;) Slow down your burn speed to 6x, 8x, or 10x.

Hey thanks for all the quick replies guys! I really do appreciate it.

LOCOENG - I'm a noob so I have nooo clue what a "DMA" is. haha.

dialysis1 - I can't really change the burner since it came with the laptop but next time when I get some dvd's, I will get some verbatim for sure. Any verbatim dvd's will be okay?

7thsinger - Thanks man. I'm going to try to set it at a lower speed. It was on "Auto" which means Max I guess.

What do you guys think about getting another DVD burner? like external or whatever. Which ones are good?

Until you fix your DMA issues choosing the write speed won't matter. You chose max for this burn, but due to the data transfer (PIO) that your computer seems to have switched to you won't see any higher speeds. In a laptop I wouldn't look for much higher speeds anyway. In your case an external burner would be a win/win...see 7th's links (both DMA and burner suggestions).

I just tried with the slower speed and it failed again.. like Locoeng said. I looked at the directions to changing the DMA.. But I can't find the "Primary IDE Channel" or the "Secondary".. All it shows is "ATA Channel 0" & "ATA Channel 1".

Alright this is what happened after I installed Windows 7.. And I was getting some (drivers&sofware) from Sony Support. And I downloaded the "Sony registry update for CD/DVD drives". After that, I opened itunes and told me that the registry was change or w/e and I couldn't burn any cd's.

    Ugh I'm so confused.

I changed the registry with www.tinyurl.com/toshibadvd . I don't know if it does anything but since I changed it itunes is giving me the message again.
