i was having a problem with my card, so i formatted the card. Everything went well, now when i tried to send the files back on my fire card, i cant get the usb mode to show up nor is it showing on my computer that it is connected. i keep on getting Error:xmenu.dat error! i know i need to put the files back on, since it isnt showing that i am connected, i dont know how else to put the files back on, can anyone help
I had this problem only last night with 2 diffrent firecards. Turns-out both the cards were ok & the problem was with the firecard reader/writer which go's into the DS's gameboy slot. Heres what i did to solve the problem. I tried different USB ports 1st. Then i tried rebooting the PC to see if that worked. One of them made the little 'bee-boop' connection noise, but it wouldnt show-uo as a removable drive in 'my computer'. . I took them both apart carefully(the readers, not the firecards)and had a fiddle about with them. theres not much in there to look at, but i put a small pen-knife into the little USB bit on the reader and jiggled it about a bit, gently teasing the little pins inside... . I put them back together and suddenly one of them started working perfectly. the other one was still goosed.. What i did then was to unscrew the thing again and fiddle about with it some more.. ...i gently 'bent' the circuit board(not recommended), and tried the penknife again, hoping this would bring about a solution, but when i put the reader back together again it was still broke. . In the past year or so dealing with these types of card i've had 4 of the card readers that didnt work...all 4 of them with the 'firecard version'. Do you know someone with a similar card?, coz it's likely that their reader will work with your card. . You might want to try giving it a full format, just in-case the problem is not with the reader. Check the USB cable. Give the reader the 'magic blow' anything. . Hope you get it working. . if the worst comes to the worst & it doesnt come back to life, you can always get another card for a family member or friend, and share the reader with them. this time get an N-card or an F-card instead of a firecard. good luck.
I've tried mine again. If i push the gameboy slot reader in only 3/4 way, then turn on DS, select USB, i hear the 'bee-boop' noise. Then i wait 30 seconds and removable drive apears in 'my computer'... ...when i double-click it though, it says either: 'insert disc into removable drive G' or 'removable drive inacessible' . try the 'waiting 30 seconds'-method...see what happens. . do you get the USB/MENU option on the DS screen when you turn on the DS? .
No thats the problem, i cant see the usb option on my ds nor is it showing on my computer. When i do the format, after it is done it tells me ti go ahead and put the xmenu file, but i can since i am not communicating with the computer. Also, when i ordered the card i purchased a fire card with the linker, and when it shows up on the ds it says f card, is that the same.
you were right i put it in about 3/4 of the way, and tapped the f card and presto, thank you very much. i will have to be careful from now on. thanks once again.
excelent... ..i'm glad you got it working, & i'm glad to be of help. . your reader(although working now)is obviously a not very good one. Thats the luck of the draw with these firecards. The new firecards(now called F-cards) have a newer, different style, faster type of card reader(which is similar to the G6 real), and they work brilliantly. Maybe thats why they changed them. ..firecards, N cards, F cards, DSlinkers, MK5's are all basicaly the same card, and their readers are all interchangable. . hope your reader works for a long time. take care.
