Can't connect directly to modem

    I can't connect my cable modem directly to my computer. I always have to connect the modem to the router, and then connect the router to my computer. Whenever I try to connect my modem directly to the computer the internet connection never works. Any suggestions?

    did you do an ipconfig release if using xp before switching directly to the modem?

    should i do the ipconfig release with the router connected?

    yes then disconnect router, attach modem & do an ipconfig renew

    nvm it works now. i had to turn off the modem when it was connected to the pc and turn it back on again lol.
