I'm not sure if I am in the right place, but here goes.
I have a MKV avi that my computer won't let me delete.
Every time I try, a box opens that says:
"This action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. Close the file and try again."
I am not playing this avi anywhere. I don't know how to get rid of it.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you

I have already tried safe mode and just tried the disabling of the thumbnail view.
I still can not delete the file. It still tells me it is open in windows explorer.
Could you explain the Linux live cd (how it would help me) and where to get it, if this is the only other solution?
    Thank you

linux live cd is no different to a windows OS install disc except it can be run off the cd or installed, first off i'll direct you to puppy it's less than 100mb in size if you want to test it out before burning & running off cd you can run it in virtualbox (free to use) as you can any operating system except Mac,for this exercise it'd be best if you use a re-writable cd

    ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/

if you can't figure out puppy or whatever go here, look to the right & scroll down, theres a list of names below one another MINT should be at the top or just use the distro search (distro = linux term for operating system aka as flavour)

Thank you. I went to Microsoft.com and on their forum, they told me to download "Unlocker 1.9.1".
I right clicked on it and it was deleted.
Thank everyone who tried to help me.
I appreciate you taking time out of your day to try to help me.
    Thank you again.
