I have a NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A dvd burner in my laptop. I had bought Imation 8X DVD+R last year and they burned fine for me (i just ran out a little while ago)... i went to buy more and I bought the generic "staples" brand because they were on sale (yes, i know that i should be getting better ones... but i was feeling cheap at the time) They said they were fine up to 16X... so i assumed that they would be fine to run at 4X. There weren't any that were 8X or 4X at the store. Unfortunately my computer couldn't recognise them. or at least couldn't burn to them. I was using DVD Decrypter to burn a dvd and it couldn't burn anything. So... i figured that maybe i should stick with the brand that worked before (seemed like a logical plan to me)... so i went back to the store and got imation DVD+R, unfortunately they only had 16X again (but the guy at staples said they would be fine)... needless to say, my burner still can't burn onto them. I know that it says you may need to update firmware, but i am 99.9% sure that my burner was discontinued and that there were no firmware updates made... any thoughts? am i doomed to never be able to burn dvd's again?
Update your firmware. If its older than one day update. Just because you have DVD Decrpter does not mean you can copy a movie. You Need outher programs to help you do this DVD Shrink,AnyDVD,Ripit4me,Imageburn you get the picture also I would not use anything but Verbatim DVDR- for movies you will hear about outher brands but start with Verbatim unless you like coasters. The movies are new, DVD Decrypter is old and has been shut down there are no more updates to get past the blocks so that why you get the errors
i already have the dvd ripped (i used dvd shrink)... the problem is that i can't burn it. I would update my firmware if i could... but there are no updates for it because it is a discontinued model. I don't want to go buy anymore dvd's until i know that i will actually be able to burn them, because right now i haven't had much success
Download DVD Decrypter in decrpter you can update your firmware next you should read the guides for Shrink, Decrypter also ANYDVD is a great program to run in the background to fool your PC so you can burn copy protected movies Read the Guides its to much to type in the post
when i search for firmware updates using dvd decrypter it tells me that there are no firmware updates available... am i just S.O.L. is my dvd player doomed to not recognise any new dvds?
Lizabelle, Have you tried Liggy and Dee's firmware site. They have most of the NEC firmware updates and they also have some of their own. They have 2 listed on the site and they are 1.01 and 104D. Instructions are also on the site on how to flash a drive. http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/
in addition to the other replies, it seems Imation are burning you instead of the other way around sorry couldn't resist, Imation feature in my signature, and not in my burners anymore
yeah, i've heard that they aren't good... but i figured that they worked before so it seemed like something i should try... I'm going to see if i can return them and check again to see if there are any 8X dvd's. I've checked the firmware and i have the most recent version that was made, unfortunately it was made in 2004, so its not exactly new. I think that i might need to start thinking about getting a new burner, but i will see if the 8X work first.
here is your burner: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters...om=&bdrom=&orderby=Name&hits=50&Search=Search the reason why you can't burn any 16x disk is because you would need a firmware update for your burner.... it's only to burn 4x and 8x media and the firmware probably is inadequate to do the update to 16x burning because the firmware is almost 2 yrs old now. That doesn't cut it. Find yourself some good media ... if you can't buy it in the stores then go online and buy it...... keep to the Made In Japan rule! Look on the box or spindle label and make sure it says MIJ on it. Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, Fuji..... make sure about the MIJ! Verbatim is the only exception to this rule and it's top notch, made in Taiwan/Singapore. You should have no problem if you get better media and make sure no higher speed than 8x.
i don't think that we have a best buy in guelph unfortunately... yay for small cities but thanks for the suggestion, i will keep that in mind
