Ok people, I'm new to this so please have patience with me.

My problem is every time I try to install Nero 7 I get an error messsage that say's, "MSI starter has encountered a problem and needs to close". I'v downloaded the Demo version 3 different times from 3 different sites and get the same error message every time. Any thoughts?

So, the problem is not with Nero 7 but with Microsoft Installer?

Try to Update Your Bios Divers. Or you can Try to install ms xp service pack 2 on your computer. If that does not work then i don't know

Thanks for the reply. It's good to know that it "might" not be my system. I,to, went back to Nero 6 and am awaiting a reply from the people at Ahead Sofware. (4 days and counting).

sounds like going back to 6.x is a very wise move. there's too many ppl having grief with 7.x at the moment...let everyone else be the guinea pigs for the bugs....wait 'til at least 7.1 or whatever the next big release is..

OK, got this email from Ahead today(11/19). It worked for me. Hope it works for others as well. Good Luck.

    "Thank you for your e-mail.

We have a new Cleantool which will hopefully solve the problem (I know you have done this step already but this is with the new cleantool).

First make sure you have your Nero 7 serial key to install Nero/NeroExpress with.

Launch Nero StartSmart and open the Nero ProductCenter by clicking
on the "Nero" logo in the upper left corner.
Select the tab "serial numbers", here you can see your serial number.

You can also find your serial number by the following way:
Open the registry by clicking on 'start' in Windows, then click 'run' and enter "regedit" in the text field, confirm with "OK".

    Select the path
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead\Installation\Families\Nero 7\Info
    Doubleclick the entry: 'serial7'.
Here you will find your serial number.

The serial number has this form:
    1Cxx-xxxx-xxxx-...

Download the CleanTool for Nero 7 from
    ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/General-CleanTool_7.zip
    to your desktop.
Unzip the Cleantool with WinZip or WinRar and then double click on the EXE file to run it.
Reboot your system when the clean tool has finished.
It will clean the registry and remove all Nero entries.

Start the installation of Nero 7 again.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

    Best regards,

    Alexander Frick

I ran into a problem during the install where I get a popup indicating that atl7138cb9db6.dll cannot be found in 15f1bf05.cab.

I've downloaded the nero 7 clean as mentioned above and rebooted and still get this error.

I've e-mailed Nero support several times with no response over the past 2 weeks. I've talked to customer service with the same lack of response.

Any suggestions other than to seek a refund.

What you might want to try is do a disk clean up delete all your cookies then defrag. Before installing Nero 7, Close all your windows that are open, disable norton antivirus or which ever one you have.Go into control panel and go to add and remove programs and make sure nero 7 is not there and has been uninstalled.go into my computer and check c drive Program files and check to see if ahead is gone and also look for nero to see if that is also gone if not delete them also go into the registry and check local machine under software and see if ahead and nero are gone if not delete them also check under current user and do the same. by then your computer should be clear of nero then try to install Nero 7 happy thanksgiving!!

Thanks to a suggestion in this thread I have Nero 7 installed.

What I did was clean up the \windows\temp directory of all files and directories, removed all ahead directories from the applications folder, and cleaned up the registry for any/everything related to nero and ahead.

What a pain but at least it is installed.

Thank you baboo. I had exactly the same problem and cleaning out the registry (ahead & nero entries) and turning off Symantec did the trick. Now I get to see how my $50 works.
