I was given a computer which has software I don't want/need. I want to reinstall XP Pro, but I click on setup, i'm told the version on the computer is newer than the version on the CD and i'm not given the option to continue installation. I'm only given two options: cancel or details (which tells me to boot from CD and install new). I changed boot sequence in Setup, but I'm still unable to boot from CD. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i'm guessing not. each time i boot pc, it goes directly to windows logon screen. the only thing on cd is xp software.

yes i have. upon boot, it goes directly to logon screen, but if i click setup.exe, it WILL install and that's because this pc is running home edition and the cd is pro.

Did you try the cd in another computer that is set to boot to cd before the hdd?

You will be able to tell if the cd is bootable if you see the text "Click any key to boot from CD-ROM....." (or something very similar).

If that shows up, then I would double check the BIOS settings on the first computer to make sure it boots from the cd first.
