Most Torrents I have seen are *.rar files - and in most cases you need a password or authorization. Some sites offer this service - I used one once - cost me $4.95 for 4 days. I was after a movie I was willing to pay $50.00 for. Came out wonderful - but you kind of have to know what your doing. Good luck.
If you're needing passwords for torrent rar files, then you're using the wrong sites. The only passworded files i've ever come across are virus-ridden and or/fake files that lure those who should know better, to pay for opening the files.
If they are .rar files, You just need to use winrar. Been using it for a long time now, works great. I've come across a few of these files asking for passwords, Soon as you see that, delete it right away. Don't ever open them, Just a piece of friendly advice.
I agree with both of the above comments regarding torrents. The question was "is there any way to open" - hence my answer to the question. Both of you are right in your comments. I did say, (you might want to scroll up) "you kind of have to know what your doing. Good luck." The site I subscribed to for the 4 day $4.95 had a forum that I checked out extensively before I paid any money to and before I ran Winrar. I am not here to cause controversy - I thought I would just answer his question with my limited amount of knowledge.
Hehe, same reason i didn't offer any further advice. As i said, persevering to open said (passworded) rar files wouldn't be wise..
Sorry if my answer offened you, it was not the way I intended it. There is a reason why they want you to pay for a password and it's usually never a good reason.
Did I give you any indication that I felt offended? If I did, I am sorry if my answer in any way was taken as such. When I typed my answer I had a very concerned look about me - one of empathy. When I typed my reply regarding you and creaky my facial inflection was one of surprise. As I type this, I am thinking how difficult it is to understand feelings through the printed word. Maybe in the future we should all phrase our questions and answers in the form of a script with expressions written to describe our feeling at the time of writing... "It was a dark and stormy night, and I was pensive...." That sort of rot. What say you?
Sorry but for me that's funny. (smiling) Movie line: "The night was sultry" I've been a member of a few communities that have passwords but NO paying. I'm funny about torrents and such. If you're gonna use a torrent site it makes little sense to pay. jm2c on that. If the site is legit and you know for sure it might be safe but as a general rule I don't use passworded sites. Just me I guess. @ the OP, There are plenty of progies that will open torrent files. Depending on the file structure you may have to choose something different. wrar352 (free version) 7zip zipit3 Those are some that I've used and work ok. If it's some sort of strange compression then you'll have to do some GOOGLING or whatever your favorite search engine is. good luck to you... ....gm
This sounds like a fun thread, so I figured I'd join in... There are valid files that require a password, however, most likely you will not find them on torrents. Usually these files are uploaded to a filehosting web site, like Megaupload, RapidShare...by memebers of small communities, like greensman mentioned. Hoever, we never password them to get money, but to keep out "uninvited" guests. Someone mentioned the "real" $4.95 subscription. That is not a real torrent site, since you have to pay about $4.95 too much. And wrong, most torrents are not .rar files, since most people "that know what they are doing" avoid them like pestilence. Real torrent= Free Here's my opinion about torrents that require passwords/codecs/players: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/577223
