    Hi,

I've been trying for the longest time to play my burned DVDs in my DVD players. They will only work on my computer. I was told I can burn movies that I have down loaded and are AVI files straight to DVD and it will play. It has never happened. Then I was told I have to convert the AVI to Mpeg and that still hasn't worked. I've used Windows DVD Maker, Nero you name it. When I put the movies in, it either says not NTSC or no PAl. I even tried to convert an AVI to NTSC and it still doesn't work. Everyone says its simple, but what am I doing wrong?

you need to convert them to vob's. For that you need the free dvdflick. Make sure you use quality dvd media (sony or verbatim) otherwise your dvd will freeze or skip when played back.

Yeah, with nero vision 4 you can "make dvd" - "dvd video" add your files, avi or mpg or whatever you got. Click next play or make your own menu then hit next see that your dvd is setup the way you want and tap next again. Now if you want you can click "more<<" then "video options" and set the video mode to whatever your dvd player can read so either ntsc or pal and click ok. Now click "write to hard disk folder" choose the location of where you'd like the vob's to go and hit write at the lower right. At the end you'll have vob's, now if you can play the vob's off your hdd then you can burn with shrink or nero or whatever program you have to do that. And if the vob's worked on your hdd but then not on your player. Then the problem is either your burner or dvd player.

I went ahead and did what jony218 said and it actually plays in my dvd player now with a sony dvd, but its real choppy. Maybe someone can give me an idea on what settings i should have. Burn speed etc. My dvd player uses the NTSC

Try using DVD Flick to convert to DVD compliant Files and then Burn to Disc with Imgburn. Both progs are Free.
(Just to Re-inforce What jony218 Suggested)

Burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the Blank Media you are using.
    Use good quality Disc (Verbatims)

Flick Has a Guide, Take the time to Read it.
