I have a Philips DVP 642 DVD player. It plays everything. However, it won't play mpg4 discs made with Nero Recode2. It says the disc is blank. I import an mpeg2 file into Nero Recode2 and recode it to a mpg4 using the RECODE DVDS AND VIDEOS TO NERO DIGITAL feature.

Should I be recording to a specific type of Disc? CD, DVDR-, DVDR+ ? I can't find a HowTo tutorial anywhere.

I capture Old VHS movies as mpeg2 using a plextor PXM402U, then recode them to mpg4 so I can play them wirelessly on my DLink DSM 320 from my computer to my TV. I want to save some disc space by recording the mpg4 to disc that will play on my DVD player.
Is there something better I should use?

    Thanks,
    Paul

The 642 wont play nero's mp4 files. You can convert to divx and they will then play on it.

    Thanks,
I've been making myself crazy trying to determine if the problem was me, the media, the machine or the Indian national the answered the Philips help line.

Can you recommend a product to convert my mpg4 to Divx?

I use divx converter. It's part of divx pro bundle from divx.com. I have not try mp4 with it but dont see why it would't work.
