Hi everybody. After formatting my computer and installing windows, my cd-rom drive just can't read a CD-R which it could read with no problem before. I can see the contents of the CD, but when I try to copy from or run a file in the CD, it hangs and I have to reboot computer. It was all fine before, I had used that CD many times without any problem. Nothing happened to the CD or the device but it just can't read now. What can be the problem? Thank you. (my CD-rom drive is Creative CD4020/1E 40x)
It's Windows98. I didn't make an upgrade, I was running Win98 before, too. I only formatted computer and re-installed Win98. The problem I mentioned occured afterwards. The problem is with only two of my CD's; the other ones work properly. Strange but it's true...
I uninstalled and re-installed the cd-rom drive, but still the same. There's no physical damage or dirt on the cd's, everything's just the same as it was before. If the drive didn't read all my cd's I'd be sure that the problem is about the hardware. But as I said before it's about two copy cd's, not all of them. I'll check these two in another computer and see if they work elsewhere. I'm thinking about connecting the drive as secondary master (it's sec. slave now). I know this doesn't sound like a solution but I can't imagine anything else. Any suggestions?
