can't read disc? xbox problems

    ok my xbox will play for awhile and then say it cant read disc but if i wait about an hour it will work for awhile again and say it cant read disc.i called xbox support and they said get it repair .i now that my lens is ok and the light in the front stays green so i dont know what to do.swap hardrives or what.please help

    well is it modded? if not, then its not the hdd its the disc drive. there is a good good chance that you have a thompson drive, those drives are known to get weak, what happens is the after running it for awhile it gets hotter, and the laser has more strain, causing it to give up reading the disc. when u sit it 4 awhile then it cools down...and does it all over again. good chance that your disc drive will die real soon. if you have never broke the mcrsft seals on it, then just call microsoft back, tell them that it wont read discs, and they will replace it. just say "i put in the discs, but it doesnt read them all the time..about 50 percent of the time it gives me a read error" now if the seals are broke...buy a new drive.

    well its not moded but the drive is a phillips but it makes sense.now if i would happen to go up to a computer store and get a dvd drive would it work?

    nope a normal dvd-rom wont work, your best bet is a replacement drive from ebay, ur lookin at about 40 bucks with shipping.
