I can watch a movie, I can burn DVD's, I can place movies on my hard drive. However, I am UNABLE to use CD's on the same drive: can't load programs, can't burn CD's - music or data. I cannot even view the contents in explorer or my computer - when I do load a CD (blank or otherwise) message states - "please load a disk."

I have only one DVD/RW and it is setup as master.

Go to "My Computer", and right click on your dvd drive's icon. Click on "Properties". Click on "Recording" tab. Make sure the box is checked next to "Enable CD recording on this drive".

If it's already checked, go to the Device Manager, and find your burner there. Delete it, or uninstall, whichever the terminology is. Reboot, and let windows reinstall it for you. That's if you are running XP. Don't know if earlier OS' will do this.

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner too.
If it still doesn't work, you may want to buy another burner. Maybe it won't come to that. Or maybe someone else has some ideas.
    Good luck!
