i am trying to record my cassette tapes and old lp's and transfer them to cd.
i have sound blast software to handle the digital recording and ran a cable from my headphone jack on the stereo to the audio in port on my pc.
the problem is, it is only recording one channel.
i have checked the balance on both playback and record. everything seems to be fine, i am wondering if the problem is that i am running the cable from the headphone jack?
    any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend using the headphone output, the quality of that output is usually quite poor from the receiver. instead use the "tape out" rca connectors in back. that should result in higher quality. are you sure you are using a 1/8" stereo cable?

the cable i'm using is actually a guitar cable with adapters on each end.

in that case I'd get yourself the proper cable to do the job. you need a STEREO 1/8" to stereo RCA cable. as long as your receiver has tape record output RCAs thats all you need
