I've only got the option of burning at x4 and x8 speed using convertx to dvd and with ashampoo wich is causing movies to pause(i think)it's a compaq presario sr1720an and the disks are dvd-r 8x,does slower burning stop these errors?

Burning at 4x shouldn't have any negative effects.

What brand of blank media are you using? Cheap media can cause playablility problems with burned discs.

Output you files as iso and burn with imgburn instead free from

    www.imgburn.com

Much better burn engine and more stable burns

Yes they are cheap, but I have a laptop that has lower burning speeds and i'm pretty sure that there's no errors, could there be a driver update somewhere or try setting computer back to factory default. HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GCA- 4164B

Definately update everything and start using good media.

Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim are all i use now. You'll find there's no good reason to not use great blank media.
