cant set up eurovox

hello all
i am new to this and know very little about the eurovox.
i got a red box max 2007, i am in dublin with ntl i have the basic + digital + sports, i wanted to try out the box before i cancelled my digital, when i plugged it in it had a lot of chanell names on it but no picture, i think my first mistake was plugging my cable in to the antenna socket i read a post that said it should be the rf socket, is that right? i tried autoscan and got nothing i then tried power scan got nothing and lost the chanell names that were there
the face had 0001 on it which changed to 0000 since reading the post i tried it in the rf socked did a powerscan with no results, i have read posts about flashing but dont know what that does i would be eternally grateful for any advice
