cant set up modem

I can not get my modem to work .I have w2000 and the modem was erased i have it back but cant get it to work w/ my aol.

 

Ok, a little more info.
I take it is a External Dial-Up Modem.
What brand is the modem?
What Operating System Are You Using?

First thing i would try is going into Control Panel, the Phone And Modem Settings

Win98:
Double Click Modems -> Click on Diagnosics Tab -> select your modem -> Click More Info.
Wat does that say. OR

Win XP:
Double Click Phone and Modem Options -> Modems Tab -> Click on the Modem then Go Properties -> Diagnostics Tab -> Query Modem.
What does that say.

Seems like he's given up or he's already solved it. Maybe his modem wasn't plugged in

I work at a ISP Helpdesk, its supprising how many people forget to 'Plug' the modem in, or if its External, turn the power 'on'.
