    Hi,

I want to look for updated firmware for my CD-RW, but Windows XP does not know the make or the model no. of my drive! It just calls it "RW-241040" in all properties, and has the standard Windows XP drivers for it....is this just a generic drive?? if so, what can i do to update the firmware? The real problem is that I keep getting medium speed errors on all but ONE type of disc. I thought updating firmware might work...any suggestions?

    Thanks a bunch

98Iwatso, I think before anyone else can help you update your firmware, you should tell us the right model number of your writer. You should be able to find the model number written on top of your writer. If WinXP don't tell you, you should be able to see it on the software that you use for copying like Nero, CloneCD, etc. It should tell you the brand, model number when you try to write on a cd. I am a newbie on this things too but I learned from experience. I hope this helps.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply, however this is my main problem. nowhere on my PC does it say the name, apart from what i gave u at the start. I use nero, which uses the info windows gives it to do display the name... i have jus had a look on the label on top - it has the model no. but no manufacturer!!! I cant beleive it!

Thanks again, anyone else out there??

    Ultima (I believe the manufacturer) RW-241040 RW-241040 5.1.0.30 5.1_Plat 5.1a

I found this info while trying to fix the same problem. I have been getting the medium speed error myself and it driving me nuts. If this leads you to anything let me know so I can try and find something.

P.S. I typed in RW-241040 at google.ca and got about 102 hits. you might want to try that (I have only checked out about 5 before coming across your message)

thanks for that! I have found the website, though it appears that the company has three names, one of which is also "Artec" the Ultima one is for South African customers, which is strange considering I'm in the UK! Anyhow, they have a new firmware version, along with a FlashTool to update it. So I have done that, and it works! the web address if you still need it is http://www.ultima.com.tw/
