Whenever I click on 'Windows Firewall' in control panel, I receive the following message:

''Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?''

When I click "Yes", Firewall settings are greyed out and are I cannot select or unselect them. Does anyone know about this weird thing? Please help me, as it affects my Internet speed...

It's turned off...that's the first step to fixing the windows firewall. The second step is to download a working free firewall from the internet. Windows firewall does not do anything to protect your computer, and should never be trusted by itself, or used in conjunction with other firewalls. Just leave it turned off.

If you are using a router or hardware firewall you can enable windows firewall and use it alone.
