    @garmoon

    Right you are and TY
    Also CloneDVD2 is now 2.8.9.2
    Apparently in these cases it mattered not, got 'em easily.
    Problem with the way the other folks are doings things, as I'm sure you're aware, is the time involved. Looks like they are set on fab decrypter(slow), shrink(slow), and I guess nero. I had it backed up before fabdecrypter even read it.

    I use AnyDVD and NeroRecode about 90% and use Shrink and Decrypter when needed. I also used advanced analysis in recode. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race. In other words a better DVD may result. I don't use CloneDVD2. I haven't needed that one yet. But can't fault that worthy program.

    @garmoon

    Kind of the the old tortoise and the hare analogy LOL
    However I have compared quality of the various programs and combinations out there, as it matters very much to me as well, and there is no noticable drop off in quality vs speed with Clone. It has several modes and allows you to select/deselect just about everything on the disc. For example when a movie contains both full and widescreen versions, you can uncheck the one you dont want to get a better shrink ratio, same with sound, menus, directors comments, and other options etc. Very user-friendly. I highly recommend clone, Trial is free for 30 days. I've never tried recode, have to check that one out, sounds like a one step process as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Having trouble with Capote:

    I used the newest DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.3. Then I ran it through DVDshrink and burned with Nero. I didn't get any errors in any part of the process. When I payed back the files within DVDshrink, the movie looked normal.

    [bold]However, the discs I burned (tried several times) were all coasters.[/bold] None were recognized by any DVD player. I have burned many DVDs with this burner and blank media, so that's not it. I even tried making a disc of the movie only - also a coaster. I'm mystified... Any suggestions? Could there be a bug in the newst release of DVDFab decrypter?

    RachelR ,
    Welcome to the forum. Can you post your Nero Log. Just cut and paste it back here

    Nero 6-C:/ProgramFiles/Ahead/Nero/NeroHistory.log

    NERO 7 -C:\ProgramFiles\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory.log

    CarMike, Thank you so much for your offer. The log is really long. Is it ok to paste a big file here? Is there any particular section I should cut and paste?

    Here's the log of one of my burns. I ran Capote through DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.3. I opened those files in DVDshrink. I adjusted compression on some of the extras and replaced all the coming attractions with a still image (all within DVDshrink. The movie 'scanned' in DVDshrink playback just fine. The shrink process went without error as did the burn. Here's the log. Thanks for looking!

    You need to update your firmware as it is up to 1.04

    2. Physical memory : 1022MB (1047532kB)
    Free physical memory: 280MB (287548kB
    You might want to cut off some of the unneeded processes as you are using alot of Ram

    Set the target size to custom-4350. Burning to close to the rim but since these are Ty's I am not that concerned about it

    This burn was done and verified by Nero. So what is wrong when you view the DVD? Are you sure these disks are no fake Ty's? Other have had this problem w/ that media code

    Hi Car.Mike
    First of all, thank you so much for your help. I've just updated the NEC firmware. I'm about to re-DVDshrink with the smaller custom size you suggest.

    When I inserted the burned DVD in a DVD player purchased about 10 months ago (it plays all my oter Nero burns) or in a PC or a Mac, it simply isn't recognized. I don't think it's even spinning up.

    I don't understand this "Are you sure these disks are no fake Ty's? Other have had this problem w/ that media code"

    I confirmed that the original Capote disc spins up and starts normally with my player & computer.

    I was talking about the blank media as it's Mid Code is Ty. There have been fakes of that blank media. Will the burned disks play in another player or computer. As it is late here I'll check the thread tomorrow

    @ those struggling with capote, squid, disney stuff etc......

    I cringe when i see these suggestions to upgrade firmware, fake ty disks etc. All you need is clonedvd2, anydvd, and possibly dvd region + css. the latter 2 run in the background and strip the protection on-the-fly while clone does the copying. very user friendly and all have trials, you have nothing to lose by trying what i suggested, and when you see how easy it really is with the right software, you'll never waste time with other stuff. Slysoft is very reasonably priced, with lifetime free upgrades on anydvd with a 20.00 discount to afterdawn members - www.dvdidle.com. i cant figure out why you are making it hard on yourselves when its problem-free with that aforementioned software combo, All the stuff I've been reading you all doing is absolutely a waste of time, and you're still not getting it backed-up???!!! This is all I'm gonna say on the matter, it appears i'm being ignored anyway. Those who have been around awhile know what works. Good luck but be real careful upgrading firmware and things of that nature or you'll be buying a new burner.

    I agree...Shrink + anydvd running in the background + I just burn with decrypter. 100% success rate..I repeat I've had a 100% success rate.

    mcmenace,
    The person that was being helped asked the question in the Shrink forum and not in the CloneDVD2 forum. Since they prefer to use freeware instead of a program that cost $$ we try to help them and point out what is wrong w/ their burn log as the log does not lie. Some people come here w/ a burner that is 2+ years old and when they start using 16X or 8X new blank media that burner does not recog that media because the company has not updated the firmware to include that brand so the burner does not recog. that media. I own CloneDVD2 and I have an old Nec burner that will not burn using any 16X or 8X blank media and that is using the updated version of CloneDVD2. Since I doubt that NEC will update that firmware(they have not in 2 years)that burner is of no use to me. So even if you have CloneDVD2 that does not mean that the burner will burn a DVD it does not recog . The burner will burn if you use 2X blank media and yes CloneDVD2 and Shrink both work using that blank media.

    There was a company that produced blank media that was a fake of the TY's and I was just asking was she sure she purchased from a reputable company as they will take the media back if it is a fake. It probably is not fake but the questioned needed to be asked.

    I presume that you belong to the CloneDVD forum at another site and if so you know that they also tell them to do the same thing that I did in the thread above which was update your firmware and check the blank media as people are having problem w/ that program too.

    I feel stupid asking this question but how do you read files with shrink I had problems with this mode since day 1. I am missing some basic tech concepts to get anything to read themultiple file formats. I have only been using the ISO mode. I had been using Shrink disk to ISO mode as a one stop solution but the video companies are more agressive with their encrytions these days. I have used DeFab to decrypt this one but alas I can not do anything with all those files.

    Thanks

    @car.mike

    as there are no cloneDVD forums here, I presumed (wrongly I guess) copying issues were discussed/solved here. AnyDVD is the real key anyway, as it works fine with shrink. I have seen those progs recommended here before and was just trying to help someone in need. In case you forgot, You can obtain free trials of progs aforementioned, so one needn't spend any money unless one feels it's worth it. As probs such as these continue, I can't help but wonder if shrink is nearing the end of its lifespan anyway. I am disabled, on a fixed income, with 4 kids, I dont advise throwing money at any problem. Updating firmware can be lethal to a newbie, I was simply advising them to be careful, not to do it. BTW there is a free prgm called smartburn3 put out by lite-on that tells you everything you want to know about a blank disc. You have my apology if I offended you, as that certainly was not my intention. My intention was just to put a simple solution on the table, one that you use yourself. I have got the message , dont want to step on anyone's toes. Will read and learn and keep my suggestions to myself. Happy Burning !!

    Sincerely
    McMenace

    Last night I upgraded firmware on my NEC drive, set DVDshrink size to 4350, burned on to a TDK blank DVD-R with Nero running alone ... and created another coaster.

    I used the most recent version of DVDFab Decryper (2.9.7.3). There was someone else on this forum who was successful using DVDFab decrypter 2.9.7.2. [bold]I'm wondering if I should try down-revving to 2.9.7.2?[/bold]

    People in this forum have had success with DVDFab + DVDshrinkon Capote, so I'm just trying to repeat their success with the same tools. Still stymied and mystified, though...

    What DVD hardware do you use to burn? And about how many burns have you done? My experience with burning over 600 DVDs leads me to believe the DVD Burn hardware devices, regardless of brand [external or internal] have a built in life expentancy of 150 to 200 burns. Which is why I get repleacement warranty on them - on my 3rd replacement of an external burner....

    Check your burned 'coaster' disk - do you see visible signs of a burn? Do you see a mirror like blank finish with a circle near the center? Do you see dark colored small blothes or any scatches?

    Myself and perhaps a few others who noted my success burning Capote used the updated 2.9.7.2. It's doutbtfull that's your problem. Check the version log to see what changes the programmer made between the two, but unlikely to be cause of your burn problem.

    I'd suggest trying to burn something else besides Capote, I've been using 4.7 16x +R TDKs like you. They seem to often be on sale at CompUSA - 100 for $30. . Personally I think your problem stems from your hardware...

    Do some visual checks on your burned 'coasters' and verify a succesfful burn using something else besides Capote...
