Is it possible to capture video to an external USB 2.0 hard drive or does USB 2.0 not support high enough speeds? I have a 40 gb internal SATA hd that is my main drive, so I can't use that. I recently got a WD 80 gb external USB hard drive to back up my photos, etc. I would also like to use this drive for video capture. is this possible or do I need to get a separate internal SATA drive?
It actually depends on the Capture device....If the Capture device used Hardware Compression then you should be able to Capture to a USB drive (Firewire is Better) because Compressed Video uses up Less Bandwidth than Uncompressed Video but if your Device Captures to say AVI format then there probably wouldn"t be enough bandwidth to transfer the Video to the HD because Uncompressed AVI sucks up Huge ammounts of Disk Space..... You could Take the Drive out of the USB enclosure and Install it Inside your PC Case and Connect it Via IDE or SATA..... Good Luck
