    Minion,

I used the ATI software to capture, then I used DVDlab to take my captured file and compile. I then burned to a DVD-RW. Tried the DVD on my sons TV and seems kinda jerky.

Why is the playback this way?

Should I used a different capture program?

Is there a good one for free?

How much is a decent one?

Is my ATI AIW-VE card the part that is the difference?

I just have a limited number of tapes to convert to DVD for the player in the car, so the quality is not as important as others on this forum.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Did you Drop any Frames while captureing?? This can cause proratic Jerkyness..But what Probably is the Problem is that your Capture device captures Interlaced Video But with the Field Order reverced which will Cause Jumpy Playback especially when there is a Lot of Movement on the Screen...You could Maybe Try "Intervideo WinDVR 3.0" to capture to mpeg because it uses a Deinterlace Filter which captureing which reduces any Jumpy Effects on Playback..There Might also be a Deinterlace Filter in the Settings of the ATI Capture Software which would also help with the Jumpy playback...
If you have a Fast Hard drive with a Lot of Disk Space you can try captureing to an AVI Format useing the ATI YUV12 Codec, and then use a standalone Mpeg encoder Like Tmpgenc to encode the File to Mpeg2 For DVD But useing it"s Deinterlace Filter, But you would need a LOT of disk Space preferably on a Seperate Drive to capture to this Format cuz it can take up to and Over 40gb per Hour of Full resolution Video...
Well Good Luck and if you need any more help let me know....Cheers
