Hi. I joined this site to try and have an almost year-long problem resolved. I am in Canada, have a Dell Dimension 8300 computer with a 128 DDR ATI Radeon 9800 capture card, use Roxio Videowave Movie Creator software, and U-lead Video Studio to capture my videos. I am in the process of converting old music videos to DVD and mostly capture from VHS tapes (NTSC) but occasionally from laserdisc and sometimes DVD. I usually capture in AVI format and then edit it Premier 6.0. My problem is this: rarely do I capture at 29.97 FPS (North American standard). The AVIs come in at pretty much any frame rate except 29.97. Obviously there are synchronization problems, and I end up spending hours--sometimes days--synching a three-to-four minute video to its audio. I've tried contacting Dell and any suggestions they have made have been fruitless. The problem persists. I'm hoping someone on this site might be able to clue me in to something I can try to alleviate this problem. Thanks for your time.

I guess you mean that when you can"t capture at 29.976fps you can"t capture at that rate because you Drop frames at that resolution???

If so then the reason could be a Few different things but it mostly comes down to your PC not being able to Capture at that Rate because it is too slow in some area and that area is usually your Hard drive...

Captureing Full Resolution Uncompressed AVI can suck up close to 1.2GB per minute of AVI file and your Main drive with your OS and Programs installed on Can not write that much data to the Disk that Fast so you should allways Capture to a seperate Fast Defragnemted Hard drive to avoid Dropping Frames...

If you are Captureing to Uncompressed AVI then you should Try captureing useing a codec...The Best Codec for AVI capture is called the "HuffYUV" Codec, This codec is a 100% lossless Codec so there is no quality loss from Compression and it uses up about half the Space that Uncompressed AVI does....

Your Last Option is to Capture at a Frame rate of 14.985 fps (If you can) and then when you convert this 14.985fps AVI file to Mpeg then the Encoder just has to Duplicate every frame Once to make up the 29.976 Frame rate so there should not be any sync Problems.....

    Cheers

PS: I live in Canada also...
