Until recently I had no problem but now during capture using Pyro link from VHS player to computer all the video will do is stutter and stay on the first couple of frames. I can get 10 minutes of this and never regular video as before. I have gone to Pyro link and they replaced the unit same problem. I have played tape on the VHS machine and it works fine. I even bought all new cables. I figure the problem is on the computer somewhere. I have several options for doing video Pinnacle studio 9 and 10 (which I really like), Ulead studio 7 , Showtime etc. I really only use Pinnacle. I have an older computer that works fine running XP with plenty of memory, I have made several of videos for my business (Horses) with no problem. No I am unable to import video. Could this be a codec problem ? Or will anyone have a solution. I am going nuts!!! 64 is too old for this stuff (HaHa)
Is this video a purchased one or one that you made yourself? Purchased videos have Macrovision and what you described is what usually happens when you try and record them.
This was one of my own VHS tapes made by myself. I have checked the codecs on my laptop and they are the same as my problem desktop so I think I can rule out codecs as a problem for the time being. zi will try to copy to my laptop this week. Thanks so much Woody
Probably what's happening then is that the video signal is unstable and the software thinks that it is Macrovision. Macrovision's protection is done by making an unstable signal (vertical blanking interval of the video signal which is off screen). Your TV wouldn't display it or just ignore it but your capture device or software may have a hard time syncing it properly. You could try playing with tracking or get a TBC. Full frame TBCs are expensive (about $250 or so) but produce a very good and stable signal.
OK I write this very embarrassed because I was causing my own video problems. It seems some where along the way I had switiched my little electrial box cord with a large one. The smaller one was in the box with my Pyrolink (machine for copying vhs to digital). I switched to the smaller one and after 18 months it worked and I am back in business. Now I have to tell Pryrolink how sorry I am. I want to Thank everyone who tried to help me out, I am sorry I took up so much of everyone's time.
