I have a Canon Legria HV40, Windows 7 and have bought Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate.

Should I capture using Pinnacle (I have Firewire) or is there better programmes for capturing? The reason I'm asking, is when I capture, the image that displays on the PC does not appear to be "smooth".

I am from South Africa, so we use PAL- 25 fps. What should the settings be? 1440 by 1080?

In the other posts I have read that people are using hdvsplit. In the past I have also used Virtualdub for capturing.

So to summarize- Pinnacle, or another programme for capturing? I am happy with the editing, etc.

    Thanks

I have captured the HDV using HDVsplit. The files are now in m2t format

If I open Pinnacle Studio 14, I am able to see the title of these m2t files, but if I drag them to the storyboard, I cannot open it. My perception is that I need to change the format to mpeg to continue with the editing.Or is there a plug-in for Studio 14?

What am I not doing, or doing incorrectly?

    Thanks for any advice

While waiting for re-plies, I saw that SUPER is an option. Any thoughts?

    Super option for what ?

You may be able to demux your m2ts file and then remux the H264 and ac3
    into an Mp4.

Use tsmuxer to demux and YAMB to create the mp4.

    Code:
    Super option for what ?
To change m2t format to mpeg; but I have just read that one can try to change the m2t add on to the folder to m2ts or ts and that might work, so that Pinnacle can recognize the clip.

I am not sure if I should go the demux road. What about capturing directly to mpeg?

I saw this from the Avid site:
For me it seems senseless to capture and then convert before I can use the file.

I can much easier capture direct with a good programme directly to mpeg.I keep all my tapes.

Any ideas of a good capturing programme?

I think I'm going to stop struggling and give this version away.

What good programmes can people recommend? Vegas? or what else?

    Any advice please

Seems your biggest criteria should be that it supports your native format.
Start researching along those lines... also, many of those products have free trials.
