I'm not sure where this topic belongs so if anyone has a more fitting place, please move it.

I recently bought a Kenwood KVT-614 with the G510 navigation add-on. I bought those two items from Amazon.com as together they were around $900 (Crutchfield wanted $1350 for the package). I called Crutchfield and ordered the mount and the wiring harness for my car separate.

My car is a 2003 Dodge Stratus SXT two door Coupe (7 Speaker). I installed my last head unit (XDM6350) which turned out be, well, shi*. So I am not a 'newbie' per se. I can wire the harnesses myself and adding the GPS navigation through the fuse box and into the system itself shouldn't be too hard, but I ran into a problem.

The DVD head unit instructs me connect the park brake detector wire. I do not know what this is or where to connect it. I'm interested in just groundking that wire to bypass that completely (and be able to watch DVD's while not parked (with the brake engaged). I know this is illegal and unsafe. In any case, I want to know what I'm supposed to do if grounding it doesn't work.

If simply grounding that wire does not bypass the brake detection, I am not concerned about trying to bypass it further.

Assuming the bypass does not work, what and where do I connect the brake detection wire? To wire it legit.

    Thank you,

    ~Nicht

    Hi again stranger..

Now then.. does a light come on anywhere when the brake is on? That should do for a source, maybe you will need a relay as well (or a cmos gate or something that does the same) to get the sense of the signal right.
msn me and we can have a chat about it if you want.. ye has my details

I thinks you are x09 on my lists.. perhaps.

I never thought of that, that just seems deceptively simple. I'm waiting on delivery, but yes that is my MSN, I don't go on it much anymore so if you could PM me your email adress that'd be great.

    Good to see you again,

You do have a sensor...it is on the pedal ebrake, or on the handle ebrake. I would recomend bypassing it, as it isn't illigal to have a DVD playing while you drive...it is only illigal to sell a car that is capable of doing so. You might not even need to bypass it; many such units will work fine if you don't hook up the switch wires at all. Plus, what is the point of a GPS that you can't use while driving?
