Well...I need some of you guys' helps or advice, probably Sam could help me with this as well. As you know, I have the Azza case Solano 1000R...However, after I installed the after- market heatsink, Cosair heatsink, I was unable to close the case(put the panel back) because the heatsink blocks the side fan of the panel of the case. So I had to remove the side fan. I am just wondering how that is gonna affect the system and how serious it is gonna be as far as heat dissipation is concerned because I have two graphic cards and I would like to overclock the CPU a bit as well. Or there is no way I could do that due to the lack of one big side fan? or do I have to switch to another case? Note: Cosair heatsink is really bad. I initially wanted to install six sticks of ram but after installing the heatsink, one of the ram slot got blocked and when installing the ram in the second slot, I had to tilt the ram a bit due to the darn fan of the heatsink.
One of the memory slots being blocked by a cooler is not unusual, it happens with several large coolers. The main problem here is the design of the motherboard, not the design of the cooler, as placing the mmeory slots too close to the CPU socket is obviously the problem here. Typically no cooler blocks more than one slot, so unless you're populating all of the slots on the board (rare) it's not an issue. As for not having a side fan, it depends on the specification of the PC. For high-end systems the impact on cooling performance is devastating. For low-end basic systems it's not much of a problem. Again, the side fan being blocked by the heatsink is a design flaw with the case (As is to be expected with cheap rip-offs) and not a problem with the cooler. Most tower coolers, I believe the Corsair A70 included, are a universal size.
Sam in order to offset this flaw, what do ya think about the Cosair H50 water cooler? I am not sure if it is compatible with the case. I could modify the fan and put it outside, which looks a bit ugly, but I have to buy bolts and screws to fix it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010 With H50, according to the pics, it has smaller size, so I could install six sticks of my ram and then be able to put the fan back within the case. I think mine is the high-end system as I have two graphic cards installed. Because this is the system for graphic rendering, programming and video games. As soon as I get your advice, I will place my order right away at newegg.
I have heard of compatibility issues with one-piece watercoolers and narrow cases. If a tower air cooler doesn't fit, that may also not fit. You'll certainly be able to fit RAM in, but why are you using 6 sticks anyway? It's better in terms of stability to be using 3x4GB not 6x2GB, and it's not really any more expensive. If you're using 6x4GB RAM, I have to question if it's all actually necessary. To be honest, if it was me, I would send the case back for something else, you've had several issues trying to install anything in that. That is a lot of effort though, so it's really something you have to decide.
Well...I have already bought 12 sticks of 2gb ram...And I bought these a month ago and not sure if newegg lets me exchange or return them. However, I am also afraid of compatibility issue...Some other guys claimed that the H50 fits the bill but I am not really sure about that. I cannot send the case back and again it is more than a month. Besides that, I think I have already sent out the rebate form, jueezzz....
I meant six sticks.....I am kinda confused with these myself....Heeeeeeeee....Not in world does a single motherboard that accomodate 12 sticks lol.
Sh***! What this is the mobo with 16 ram slots. First time I have seen such a mobo...U are really awesome SAM for pointing this out. Anyway, I still have a question...Is it ok to put all the six sticks of 2 gb ram into those six slots? Is it usable? And will it still be stable...Of course not as stable as 3 x 4gb ram but here I am talking about the possibility.
they're server boards, not for the likes of you and me As long as all the sticks are identical and they don't overheat, it's fine to use all 6 slots.
