my first build is just about done but i dont think it will work. i have this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811196025 this motherboard http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3255898&CatId=1533 and this psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010 and i put the motherboard in on the standoffs, plugged in the power to the motherboard, green led in lit on motherboard and nothing happens when i put it on. i think the problem may be the case. I have no cpu or ram installed so they cant be the problem, nothing goes on and i think the problem is the case, any help?? (i took the cpu out of my old p3 to see if i need a cpu installed for the case to go on and everything goes on) thanks
HUH???? You need to get RAM and a CPU that are made for your motherboard. Don't be fooling around putting in a CPU out of a P3 computer. I wouldn't think it would even fit.
if cpu not inserted into socket then board might not powerup as is incomplete. when you said p3 cpu i presume you meant the p3 cpu & it's board as a p3 cpu won't fit into a socket 775 because of the p3 cpu's legs. the p4 socket 775 cpu does not use legs but pads.
you got it all wrong, i popped out the p3 chip from my old computer to see if the case goes on without a cpu and it did, that is why i am worried my case is not compatible with my motherboard or psu. thanks for your help though
did you connect the 4 pin molex connector to the motherboard besides the 24 pin power connector from the psu?
everything is in place, 4pin cpu, 24pin, 4pin next to the 24pin, power, reset, hddled, powerled everything, just wont go on, but there is a green led on the motherboard lit
try this to see if psu problem as won't be case problem. take psu out of new case & just connect it to the p3 & not the drives to see if posts or not. p3 uses a 20 pin connector compared to new psu that has 24 pin power connector but can use 24 pin minus 4 pins.
well, i put my old p3 motherboard in the case ant everything worked perfect, the case went on, the psu is nice and quiet, this means the only problem can be with the motherboard, my core2duo should be in the mail tomorrow, if it doesnt go on with that ill have ti ship my motherboard back. BUT just so im sure, on my new motherboard i only need 1 2x2 cpu connector, 1 12x2, and one last 2x2 plus the power sw from the case, not missing anything? (the reset and hdd led dont need to be in as my p3 board worked without it)
As ddp wrote, only two cables should be needed. However, test it with the cpu and cooler in place before you write the board off.
It's pretty tough to tell if he even has the CPU and RAM for his new computer, since he said, in his first post, he didn't install it. Pretty cryptic posts.
i've done lots of boards with no wiring from case buttons & leds, just used my handy dandy multi-purpose slot screw driver to touch the 2 pins of the motherboard power switch. works every time.
Yes, but do you really think that is what Overlord is doing? It isn't the normal SOP for getting a computer working.
