    That's it. The free version does a good job. For a small donation you can have the Rebuilder Pro which features a bunch of handy items. I donated a long time ago and haven't regretted it. Jdobbs keeps improving the program and emails links to do the updates. Try the free version and see how you like it first.

    The free Hank's encoder also does a good job (included in the program). I hear it's just not as fast as some of the retail encoders. You appear to have a fast machine which will offset Hank's encoder being a bit slow. I use CCE SP. I don't expect you to run out and get that one though. It was about $2000 before being replaced by SP2. There's a CCE Basic that sells for about $50, if you want to check it out (limited to 2 passes). Before you try it, the Basic trial won't work, it times out. There's probably an SP2 trial you could use to see how it works. The output is marked. With my software doing a 3 pass encode, it usually takes 90 minutes to 2 hours to finish an encode. The output is very good and worth the time. I did a full disc encode of Casino Royale and the video was excellent. The only editing done was the software not recording foreign audio and subpicture tracks, and using only the 5.1 Dolby for the movie audio. I have it preset that way to save a little bit of space since I wouldn't be using the edited content anyway.

    You're definitely not stepping on my toes. To each his own. Where are you buying your DLs and what brand? The Verbs they claim are the best here on the forums cost about $2 and up depending on where and the quantity purchased. At least my searchs. I've used them and they did do a good job. I don't use them very often, so I definitely wouldn't buy in bulk. Plus they'd have the new stuff out before I bought more. LOL

    I use the DVD5 +R media and do full disc on just about everything.

    Normally I use Sony +R and the Japanese manufactured Sony has been TY. Some movies have alternate endings and others have some interesting content besides the movie. The trailers actually don't take up much space compared to other things. I like the full backup so I can watch the extras sometimes. It's not all advertisement. With the DVD5s I use costing 30 to 40 cents (compared to $2) I've saved a bundle backing up my video library on DVD5. No complaints on HDTV either. A friend just bought a 61 inch HDTV and the video is great from the encoded DVD5s. I've got a big screen, just haven't invested in HDTV yet.

    Maybe with Blu Ray and HD DVD the DL will come down a bit more. I'm not holding my breath though. I hear the Blu Ray and HD DVD are some pricey stuff, about $12 for a HD DVD recordable and near $16 for Blu Ray. Those were about the lowest I could find online. A DL looks like it costs chump change in comparison. I'm not likely to upgrade any time soon, what with the cost of hardware and media for those formats.

    Not a bad idea. The change wouldn't take too long if a person has a changer DVD player. Plus about 1/2 way through the movie is a good time for intermission, get a fresh brew and some popcorn. Just call me lazy, I can't get into that routine. I only like breaks for movies like "Gone with the Wind" and "Lawrence of Arabia". Those even had built in intermissions. ;)

    FYI - was finally able to copy Casino Royale and The Holiday using ripit4me and Decrypter. Very important to keep in mind that ripit4me took about 2 hours to run for each rip (and is very CPU intensive).

    On a number of earlier attempts I thought ripit4me had hung so I terminated the program - but you just need to let in run. Patience and persistance paid off!

    @PacMan777

    I'm using Verbatim DLs 2.4X. I use maybe 6 a year. Bought 20 for $40 and still have half of them left. It's got to be a really good movie topick up one of those. And then there is that apprehension of "will the burn complete", that accompanies it! So far ImgBurn and AnyDVD are up to the task. LMAO

    CPU intensive and obviously times depend on CPU speed. Not bragging but I did the Casino Royale full DVD rip in about 28 minutes (complete). Others have faster times than mine.

    Casino Royale was a "nasty" bit of copy protection and took a lot of work with RipIt4Me. Most of my rips come in about 20 minutes or less. RipIt4Me is a bit slower, but users should realize the time includes processing for compliance with the FixVTS code. That's a separate job with other rippers, but the time should be added for comparison.

    Good buy, the best I could find was the same $2 per, but at a higher bulk. When I do break down and use a DL, I get the rip on the hard drive and make sure it's compliant. Then all I have to worry about is the burn. DL coasters could get into a person's pocket real quick. So far I've been lucky. I may use 4 or 5 a year. Currently I have one nice shiny Verbatim DL waiting for a worthy task. ;)

    Truly strange as the files are supposed to open in DVD Shrink, if you used the 1-Click mode as most people suggest for the complete processing. I just did Casino Royale, so I'm sure the RipIt4Me software can handle the job. Here's a simple guide to review.

    I bought an entire huge case of Verbatim off of ebay last year. 300 or so DVD R's Verbatim.

    Never had to throw one away yet. Believe it or not I've had great luck with TDK 50 packs too. I've got movies from 2003 I burned and they still play crystal clear. It just has to do with the build quality of the disc and clean dry storage.

    What companies manufactured your Verbatim and the TDKs? Verbatims are usually by good manufacturers and TDK can be more hit or miss. Since TY has manufactured for both brands, it's possible to have the same media with only different labels for the brands. Little things like that can be checked with DVD Identifier (just google). Part of the discussion was on the cost difference of DL over DVD5 and I just tossed in the newer formats. I suspect the eBay purchase was a good price. Glad to see you like the deal you got. I'm afraid we're going to be off topic if we continue on discussing media, except how it relates to the thread topic.

    DVDFAB is the simplist way to burn this movie, as I have found many times when DVD SHRINK has failed.

    DVDFAB ALL THE WAY!

    Hate to bust the bubble (well maybe not), but DVDFab Decrypter was quite a while catching up when Saw 3 was released not long ago. That's why I'm sold on RipIt4Me. DVDFab is a good program, but I prefer having a program with built in compliance processing. Personal choice has a lot to do with software. So as long as it works, a person should use whatever makes them happy.

    just passing thru to see what all the fuss is about...as this movie is out here in the UK tomorrow, though i'm confident DVDFab Decrypter (3.0.8.6 being the latest) will storm thru it as per all other movies.

    - no problems here with region 2 of Saw 3 or any other movies, can't remember what version of DVDFab i used for this movie though, as i just update to whatever the latest version is, whenever a new one is released.

    - indeed; i've been away from AD for 3months and a quick browse turned up one or two new methods i'd not heard of before, though i'm still perfectly happy with my winning combo of DVDFab Decrypter and good ole' DVD Shrink :)

    Just to quickly wrap up the Verbatims were authentic verbs. The TDK I believe were TY's. The TDK I bought 100 pack spindles were a bit $$ as not many places sold that specific one. I've been using the same discs and I've only had to trash 2 discs. 1 is because I put in a wrong regional code. Second time I forgot to burn ISO and just did the _TS folders LOL.

    Ebay is tricky as I had to make sure they were the real deal. The seller was generous enough to show me disc scans from previous packages he bought in bulk. Wonderful man, I payed about guess how much!!

    Only 75 dollars for all 300. He had an online store and a real store that sold electronics and the sort. Really good deal if you ask me.

    @PACMAN

    I'm still getting that pixelation around bright objects in contrast to dark.
    I've been reading and could it be because I'm burning at 8X? That's what my current TDK are rated at.

    Should I try a lower speerd, or is it the compression of the movie that I'm getting this problem?

    Ok I tried the Defab and then Shrink on Casino Royale and got a error message that said something to the affect of an error in a certain vob file. I see this often with newer Sony disks.

    I have AnyDVD working on it right now and I am hoping that this will work. I will try to keep everyone posted. For those who have had luck ripping this...want to clearly share how? Messege me with it at least PLEASE!!! These errors are driving me freaking nuts.
