I have some cassette tapes i want to back up on cd's. When i record them to hard drive all the songs become one long one. How can i split them back to single songs? I have nero ultra 6.6.0.18 with all the programs. Will anyone of the audio programs do what i want?
Yes. -Find Nero Wave Editor, and open it. -choose file > open, and locate the file you want to split up, and hit open (or drag and drop the file into the black area, either one.) -A "creating peak file" message should come up. Wait for it to finish. -Now you'll see your long song graphically interpreted, in green. Notice the timestamps running along the top. -The song's really big and congested, and it's impossible to see the small pauses between the real tracks. If you scroll your mousewheel up, you can zoom in for a closer look. Scroll down to zoom out. It takes a little bit of getting used to. When you're zooming, pay attention to the timestamps, so you know what you're looking at. 2:00:00 is 2 minutes, 00:02:00 is 2 seconds. -The cursor's probably at the beginning of the song by default, but if you click elsewhere in the song, you can zoom in on those places, too. If you need to return the cursor to the beginning of the song, click the gray area left of the green graphic(s). -If and when you need to hear the music, or find out where you are in the song by ear, the solid play button will play from wherever your cursor is. -Zoom in so you can see the first 40 seconds, or so, of your long song. You should see a flat line at the beginning, indicating there's no music. -You probably have a sense now of how to read the graphics as far as where music is or isn't. -Click near the end of the pause to put the cursor there; the cursor should still be on the pause line, not into the music. (Zoom in more if you have to.) Go up to the edit menu, and find "insert track split," and click it. You'll see a line that says "track 1" at the bottom. That's where track 1 will start. If you make a mistake, use the undo button. -Now you need to go and find the next area. Once you insert track 2 it will end track 1 there as well. -If there is ever a pause so long that you want to get rid of most of it, select (click and drag) the area you want to remove and go to edit > delete. -Continue inserting track splits when necessary. When you're completely finished go to edit > save tracks as files. -Take note of the directory (where you're saving to.) If you want to name the tracks now, click track 1, then wait a second, then click it again. Select what file format you want. The options button next to it is for deciding what bitrate, what quality etc. I pretty much ignore the playlist options, but whatever. Click OK, and your tracks will start being saved. The time it takes to save depends on the format and quality. -You can find your tracks now in the directory you chose to save them.
