I have an Aopen dvd and cd burner and now all of a sudden it is messing up. I tryed to burn a cd and it went very slow, for instant: it took 5 minuets to get to 1% compared to when it did work it got to 1% in 2 seconds! And now it takes about 30 minuets to burn a cd with music on it or files of data. Now once th ecd is complete burning it allways says error. And the cd is messed up all the time. Its like it came out of the blue and just broke or something.

same stuff has happened to me, amigo. your drive is about dead. there's no use in doing anything but trashing it and replacing it.

can get a new lg 52x cd burner for $28Can. try the drive on another computer to see if still screws up or not. what is your free resources or performance like before starting to burn? what is your free space like on your hd?

Have to say that i am having very similar problems, my computer is only 2 months old, and now its taking like 20 mins to rip a cd to my HD and then atleast the same to burn it, only a couple of weeks ago both these processes were only taking max 4 mins eacm i installed NERO and i already have sonic and it has gone downhill since then. I know that there is a conflict so i uninstalled NERO used the clean tool on the Nero site and then uninstalled the DVD/CD drives in device manager, reset the BIOS when clicking on F10 on startup , windows automatically in stalled the Drives then again, all errors were cleared up but now it takes as i said above ages for ripping and burning, on top of all this now the picture when i want to watch a DVD is all scratchy and jumpy, when using say WinDVD or Win Media player, but its perfect when i use HP Quicktime, I am just so frustrated with the whole thing at this stage, i dont know if all the probles are linked or not. ???????? Any suggestions??

Thanks ddp, Ill give that a shot when i get home from work, i have been looking at very similar threads and your recommendation with regards the DMA seems to be the best advice in this situation so hopeully that will do the business, are there any particular reasons for this happening in the first place?, or does the DMA have to be enabled manually? Thanks alot

sonic & nero supposedly conflicts which might have messed with your dma settings.

Yeah that was actually the first thing i did, but it didnt seem to work, i was in touch with HP support, and basically following their advice, i went into Device Manager and uninstalled the DVD/CD Rom drive and then reset the BIOs on restart. I was no longer getting errors, as before that I was getting errors burning and ripping, and it was taking ages, now its just taking ages with no errors, and in the last 2 weeks the playback is gone all scratchy and distorted, would you recommend another system restore? or just go ahead with the DMA recommendations first? Im not on my own computer at the moment as i am in work, so I will not be able to try these recommendations out until later on, so Ill go with the DMA recs first and then if this doesnt work, should i do another system restore? Thanks

ddp, when i perform a system restore, does it leave the pc in the exact state that it was prior to installation of any additional software?or does it still leave a trail on the system that could be affecting its performance etc.??

try dma 1st. system restore does & doesn't put stuff back to previous date as that tho some programs disabled since installed after that date, they are still there.

Its pretty much brand new! I fixed it though, all I had to do was just uninstall nero and get another version. I think the first version was defective!

Well im glad to report that adjusting the the DMA settings and uninstalling the IDE etc have done the job,I had PIO mode only for the primary and secondaries, so now these are set fine after restarting, DVD playback is perfect now, ripping and burning are back working as when i first purchased my PC, thanks alot ddp and also thanks to philraz from another thread that i was reading, as there was a link with screenshots to a former thread which was great guide to performing the steps in device manager with the IDEs

Try making a image of the disc you want to burn with nero and burn with alcohol 120%
